Can Kamala get a mulligan? Walz no help as MN independents break for Trump

Vice President Kamala Harris’ choice of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate is doing her no favors with independents.

According to a new MinnPost-Embold Research poll released Friday, 40 percent of Minnesota independent voters say they support Harris’ opponent, former President Donald Trump. Only 23 percent of Minnesota independent voters back her and Walz’s ticket instead.

Ouch.

Keep in mind that 48.8 percent of Minnesota voters in general, regardless of party affiliation, support Harris, while only 44.6 percent support Trump. However, that’s reportedly a drop from the five-point lead Harris enjoyed over Trump only two weeks ago.

Combined, these numbers are mainly good for Trump given that Minnesota is a D+7 registration state.

They’re also hilarious given that Harris had purposefully chosen Walz to gain an advantage with midwestern voters. Yet that advantage doesn’t appear to be manifesting.

Why not? Probably because Walz is a progressive “weirdo”:

“Mr. Walz has been described as having the ‘most progressive record’ of any of Ms Harris’s potential running mate picks,” Sky News notes.

“His accomplishments include ensuring tuition-free meals at participating state universities, enshrining abortion rights into state law, banning conversion therapy and providing protections for gender-affirming healthcare,” according to Sky News.

But this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Just how radical is the guy? During the COVID pandemic, he set up a “snitch line” for leftists to rat on anybody who failed to abide by his draconian stay-at-home order.

Leftist snitches often used the line to tattle on “‘non-essential’ businesses that remained open or weren’t strictly following masking requirements,” according to The Tennessee Star.

Listen:

Like disgraced former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Walz also reportedly put COVID patients in nursing homes.

And he defended unnecessarily keeping schools closed:

He also previously defended Minneapolis’ decision to be a sanctuary city for incoming criminal aliens.

Listen:

And just a year ago, he signed a bill expanding access to driver’s licenses to everybody, including criminal aliens.

Watch:

Walz is also a proponent of transgender surgery for children.

“Gov. Tim Walz signed an executive order … ensuring people [including children] who seek and receive gender-affirming care [transgender surgery] in the state have protection under the law,” MPR News reported in March of 2023.

“The move comes after seven states — Arkansas, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Utah — banned gender-affirming care for transgender youth and several more have taken up bills that would do the same or ban the care for transgender people of any age,” the report continued.

But there’s more. Last year, he signed a bill requiring schools in his state to stock boys’ school bathrooms with menstrual products. FYI, boys and men do not menstruate:

And, of course, Walz did nothing to stop the violent Black Lives Matter riots that erupted across his state in 2020.
