Canadian City could impose a ‘rain tax’ on residents in latest north of the border outrage

Beleaguered Canadians just can’t get any relief from the left-wing nightmare north of the border and now residents of one of the country’s major cities could be facing a new “rain tax” on top of their other woes.

Toronto residents could see the added tax in the form of a “stormwater charge” based on the hard surface amounts on the owner’s property, a proposal by Mayor Olivia Chow’s municipal government that would further bleed suffering residents who are already being squeezed in tough economic times.

“Stormwater is rain and melted snow. When not absorbed into the ground, stormwater runs off hard surfaces, onto streets, down storm drains and through a network of pipes that carry it into local waterways,” the City of Toronto states on its website.  “In urbanized areas like Toronto, there are a lot of hard surfaces. When severe storms happen, more stormwater runs off hard surfaces and enters the City’s sewer system.”

The proposed “rain tax” isn’t yet on the books with public consultations and virtual meetings to take place next month. The city is also soliciting input through an online survey through the end of April.

Social media users rained on Mayor Chow’s parade with Donald Trump Jr. suggesting that it’s only the beginning for what will inevitably be more government confiscation from citizens in the once-proud country who have had their rights crushed by PM Justin Trudeau and his fellow leftists.

“I’m sure it will end at the ‘Rain Tax,'” Trump wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “They definitely won’t just confiscate whatever they want in the not too distant future!!!”

Canadian MP Kevin Vuong wrote, “Seriously, they want to tax the rain.”

Conservative Ottawa Premier Doug Ford warned of increased taxes if the foreign-born Chow was elected before voters put her in office last year.

“You want my opinion? If Olivia Chow gets in, it will be an unmitigated disaster,” Ford said.“Taxes are gonna go up 25 to 30 percent, when people can’t afford the rent, can’t afford mortgages now. You know, businesses are going to be fleeing Toronto, as far as I’m concerned.”

“People are terrified,” he added. Apparently not terrified enough to have avoided electing the far-left Chow as the city’s 66th mayor last year.

“The City is consulting on a proposal for a stormwater charge that would be dedicated to funding the City’s stormwater management initiatives. A stormwater charge would be based on the impact of a property with respect to stormwater runoff to the City’s storm sewer system, which is represented by the amount of hard surface area on a property. Hard surfaces include roofs, asphalt driveways, parking areas and concrete landscaping,” according to the city’s website.
