Casey DeSantis rocks ‘Where Woke Goes to Die’ biker jacket; NBC’s Stephanie Rhule deletes disapproval

Florida’s first lady Casey DeSantis’ fashion choices have been a hit with supporters, but her latest ensemble, more edgy than elegant, left one elitist corporate media host cringing at comparisons to Jackie O.

President Barack Obama’s White House was often touted as a new Camelot with comparisons drawn between him and then first lady Michelle Obama to President John F. Kennedy’s family. After eight years of fawning over Michelle’s style, her successor Melania Trump, a literal fashion model, was often disregarded or even chastised.

Now, as first lady Jill Biden is heaped with praise for her unusual outfits, DeSantis is facing the Trump treatment from critics after rocking a leather jacket that read “Where Woke Goes to Die” at Sen. Joni Ernst’s “Roast and Ride” event in Des Moines, Iowa.

“Iowa and Florida: Where woke goes to die…thanks to the leadership of @KimReynoldsIA and @RonDeSantis,” DeSantis captioned an image of herself and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis entering the event as Ernst spoke.

The outfit suited the casual fare of the motorcycle rally charity event, but not everyone was thrilled over the look. In a since deleted tweet, MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle asked, “Will this photo put to rest the ‘casey desantis is the new jacqueline kennedy onasis’ narrative?”

The classless attack against DeSantis appeared to take as much umbrage with her look from Saturday as it did with her style from more formal occasions like her husband’s second inauguration. Accessorizing with gloves during the main event and later appearing in a gold ballgown, similarities to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis were hard to miss.

Ruhle wasn’t the only one taking apart the message-adorned leather jacket as others sought to use the outerwear as an example of Florida’s first family attempting to co-opt the identities of the Trumps.

In 2018, Trump had been seen wearing a jacket that read “I really don’t care. Do u?” a message meant to signify her take on corporate media’s dishonesty. To that point, outlets readily interpreted the jacket as relating to the children crossing the border to frame yet another attack against then-President Donald Trump’s administration.

The similarity of having a message on her clothing led Trump supporters to take shots at DeSantis calling her “Budget Melania,” and “Low budget, at that.”

For those who could admire DeSantis without drawing comparisons to any political rivals or attempting to score political points, not only was the outfit a hit, but many wanted to know where they could get their own items to match.

“Seriously, Casey, you need to do a merch line using the graphic on your jacket — jackets, hoodies, tees, koozies, the whole nine yards,” one person wrote as another suggested, “Love your jacket, stylish beautiful Mama.”

It was even a hit with guys who wanted to promote the message, “Gonna need that jacket. Men’s X-Large. Where’s the link??”
