CNN’s data guru Harry Enten broke down the latest polling numbers on the “One Big, Beautiful Bill” (OBBB) on Tuesday, and it wasn’t looking good for Republicans.
Enten was outright shocked at “the amount of disapproval for this bill.”
“We’re talking about 29 points underwater on the net favorable rating,” he said of one KFF poll. “But that matches the Quinnipiac University poll from last week, when it was 26 points underwater. Oh, my God, you need Greg Louganis to get that far underwater.”

He also mentioned Independents.
“We’re talking about a negative 41 net favorability rating among independents in the center of the electorate,” he said. “You rarely ever see pieces of legislation or proposed pieces of legislation as unpopular as this.”
CNN anchor Sara Sidner then asked Enten for details on how Republican voters feel about the OBBB, given the animosity toward it that Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) founder Elon Musk had previously displayed.
“Yeah, I mean, there is a large chunk of the Republican Party that is not in favor of this,” Enten replied. “So this is the GOP with an unfavorable view of this bill. And what we see here is, look at this, 23 percent are opposed, have an unfavorable rating of the big, beautiful bill.”
“Now, to put that in some perspective, Donald Trump’s unfavorable rating with the GOP is 9 percent. So this is more than double. All of a sudden, you’re taking a huge chunk of that MAGA base, of that Republican base that is turned against this bill,” he added.
So clearly, he continued, it isn’t just Musk who’s against the bill.
I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore.
This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination.
Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.

“It is not just Elon Musk, it is not just Ron Johnson … it is a large chunk of the Republican base — a large, double the percentage that have an unfavorable view of Donald Trump have an unfavorable view of the big, beautiful bill,” he said.
“And I will note that in the KFF poll, the unfavorable view you get is 36 percent. You rarely ever see anything that Donald Trump backs get that high of an unfavorable view among Republicans. But here it is with the big, beautiful bill,” he added.
Sidner then asked him to compare the favorability rating of the OBBB to the favorability rating of the tax cuts President Donald Trump signed into law in 2017.
“That wasn’t that popular back in the day,” Enten admitted.” It was a minus-17 net favorable rating. But here, what do we see with the big, beautiful bill on the aggregate? Minus 28 points. So this is far more unpopular than those tax cuts were back in 2017.”
“And remember, Republicans lost the House in 2018. So if this is the big, beautiful bill—and maybe a big, beautiful bill for Democrats, if it passes, because they’ll have a big, beautiful night come midterm night of 2026,” he concluded.
Keep in mind that the bill has been grossly distorted by congressional Democrats and their media allies. The two have portrayed the bill as something that’d “rob” people of their Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid to fund tax cuts for the rich.
Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” would:
-Eliminate Health Insurance for 13.7 million Americans
-Take food away from 4 million children
-End Pell Grants for 1.4 million students
-Cut Medicare & Medicaid by over $1 trillion
-Give the top 1% a $664 billion tax breakThat’s oligarchy.

.@RepJasmine pushes the ridiculous lie that the One Big Beautiful Bill will “gut” programs like Medicaid, and involves “stealing” from vulnerable Americans.
The bill actually STOPS illegals from stealing from vulnerable Americans by exploiting these programs. pic.twitter.com/0McH6ZYWOV

In reality, the bill wouldn’t touch Social Security and Medicare. As for Medicaid, it’d simply require lazy, able-bodied recipients to work a measly 20 hours per week to maintain their benefits.
Also, the tax cuts from the bill would apply to everybody just like the 2017 tax cuts did. That’s because the tax cuts in the OBBB are nothing more than an extension of those cuts.
