Country star who went to bat for Taylor Swift locked up on felony charges after throwing chair off rooftop

A country music star’s latest run-in with the law landed him with felony charges days after a Taylor Swift-style achievement.

Award-winning country artist Morgan Wallen rode the high from kicking off the 2024 portion of his One Night at a Time World Tour into a new low over the weekend when revels in Nashville, Tennessee landed him in handcuffs.

Following a record-breaking two-night set at Indianapolis, Indiana’s Lucas Oil Stadium, the one-time competitor on “The Voice” had showed up at the opening weekend of Eric Church-backed Chief’s Bar where he allegedly threw a chair off the roof sending it crashing down feet away from the police.

“At 10:53 p.m. Sunday evening Morgan Wallen was arrested in downtown Nashville for reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct. He is cooperating fully with authorities,” read a statement from Wallen’s attorney Worrick Robinson as the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department released the entertainer’s mugshot Monday and listed his charges as three counts of felony reckless endangerment and one count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

After officers sought to investigate the source of the chair that had been launched from six stories up, additional video showed as Wallen appeared to be shouting from the back of a patrol car. The arrest report detailed that officers had been shown video of the artist “lunging and throwing an object over the roof” and witnesses said he had laughed afterward.

The incident, which followed a May 2020 arrest for disorderly conduct, came only two nights after Wallen quelled a booing stadium full of fans after suggesting the new attendance record at Lucas Oil would likely get topped by Taylor Swift.

“We’re the first people to do it two nights in a row so thank you for making it possible for me to say that,” he expressed after telling attendees about the new record. “I’mma say that ’til Taylor Swift comes to town in the fall.”

Jeers at the mention of Swift were met with soothing words from Wallen who said, “We ain’t gotta boo. We ain’t gotta boo. I appreciate that. I know you all got my back though.”

After being released on a $15,250 bond and with a court date set for May 3, when he is expected to perform the second of two nights at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, outspoken conservative country artist John Rich voiced encouragement for Wallen to find a better path forward.

“Reading about Morgan Wallen this morning, and I can’t help but recall all the destructive, crazy things I did early on in my career,” began Rich on X. “The combo of intense pressure, expectations and over the top success is a dangerous cocktail. Thank God I had great mentors who helped guide me out of that mindset, and I hope Morgan has some people around him who care about him enough to help him find a new approach to life. It takes a lifetime to build what he’s built, and one second to destroy it all. I’m rooting for him to turn it around.”
