Two days after being struck in the head by a would-be assassin’s bullet, presumptive 2024 Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump attended the opening night of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
A common observation was that Trump, who wore a bandage on his injured right ear, appeared to be a different man. This was evident in his eyes and his smile, as if the former president had a new lease on life.

Fox News contributor Harold Ford, a Democrat, was among those making such an observation after Trump entered the arena wearing a bandage on his right ear while Lee Greenwood sang “God Bless the U.S.A.”
“You know, 52 hours ago the president was shot,” Ford observed. “And I remember where I was with my kids in my kitchen watching. I’m not a supporter of the president’s politics. I know him personally. I like him. But you couldn’t help but feel a rush of patriotism and pride and gratitude watching him walk in that hallway and walking to this floor.”
“He’s a different guy than he was 52 hours ago. He looked a little different. He didn’t look weak. He just looked a little different. And I couldn’t have been prouder for him,” the Democrat added.
Ford gives hope to the idea that Americans can still occasionally come together, offering a refreshing break from the hate-filled radical left elements that now dominate his party. After all, if America cannot celebrate a man surviving an attempt on his life for no other reason than his political views, then there may be no hope left for the country — the FBI has yet to discern an “official” motive for the deceased shooter, though they have already decreed that he acted alone.
“We will now have to get on to a race where’ll talk about the differences between the parties, talk about the differences between the vice presidential candidates,” Ford added. “But this moment here is one that I think all of us want to linger a little bit as we watch the 45th president of the United States walk into this Republican hall tonight.”
Fox News cohost Martha MacCallum called Trump’s entrance “a stunning moment.”
“Two days ago, this man came within a millimeter of losing his life in a very violent manner. And we just watched him walk in these hallways and you could feel this crowd just building and building. And he does have that bandage over his ear, the mark of that bullet,” she said.
“He appeared to be moved tonight, you know, in a pensive way that — you know, we’re so used to seeing him fired up and pumping his fists,” MacCallum said.
“Yeah, he looked a little grim,” Ford chimed in.
MacCallum added, “Yeah, he looked teary-eyed almost. Teary-eyed almost.”
