The latest from the leftist echo chamber found Democrats drooling over a sound bite for future ad spots and of course they took President Donald Trump out of context.
Tuesday outside the White House, as the chief executive departed for a state visit to China, questions from the press included a number related to the Middle East and how prolonged negotiations with Iran were impacting the near-term economics of Americans.
It was the president’s assertion that he doesn’t “think about Americans’ financial situations” when it comes to preventing the Islamist regime from possessing a nuclear weapon that Democrats twisted into a gotcha moment as the clip made the rounds on congressional social media accounts and beyond.
A reporter asked Trump, “When you’re negotiating with Iran, Mr. President, to what are Americans’ financial situations motivating you to make a deal?”
To that, the commander-in-chief replied, “Not even a little bit. The only thing that matters when I’m talking about Iran, they can’t have a nuclear weapon. I don’t think about Americans’ financial situations. I don’t think about anybody. I think about one thing: we cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon. That’s all. That’s the only thing that motivates me.”

Dubbed “The kind of quote that used to end political careers,” by former President Barack Obama’s onetime senior advisor Dan Pfeiffer, members of the House and Senate either shared the statement by itself or, like Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders (I), with added commentary.
“Of course Trump, the narcissist in chief, doesn’t think about the financial situation of Americans. To Trump, it doesn’t matter that the working class is struggling economically. What matters to Trump is that his family got $4 billion richer since he was elected. That’s it,” wrote the socialist senator. The same view was more succinctly put by New York Rep. Yvette Clark (D), who said, “No sh*t.”

Q: What do you make of Trump saying he doesn’t care about the financial situation of the American people?
Senator Warnock: Well, that’s apparent based on his policies.

Rep. Garcia: It’s not a surprise. He could not care less about affordability. He’s focused on funding illegal wars and spending a billion dollars a day. He was very clear.… pic.twitter.com/CyLe4lTtBf

Totally unacceptable. He doesn’t give a shit about us. He only cares about Israel, because they bribed him, and very likely have blackmail on him. We need to have an American president! Someone who cares about Americans, instead of just super wealthy supporters of Israel.

Aside from the obvious disparity between what the president said and how Democrats portrayed it, Trump did go on to expand his thinking on the matter when asked for clarity by another reporter.
“The most important thing by far, including whether our stock market — which, by the way, is at an all-time high — but, including whether our stock market goes up or down a little bit, the most important thing by far is: Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon,” he explained before referencing polling that found Americans agreed with him on that position. “Every American understands this … Are you listening to me? Every American understands … that Iran can’t have a nuclear weapon.”

In addition to acknowledging the reality of short-term concerns, Trump looked ahead to a future with the conflict resolved as he asserted, “When it’s over, you’re gonna have a massive drop in the price of oil … the stock market’s gonna go through the roof, and truly, I think we’re in the Golden Age right now.”
The line was also used to pester Republicans on Capitol Hill for comment, leading Texas Rep. Troy Nehls to assert, “Donald Trump cares about everybody. He’s concerned about fuel prices. He’s concerned about it all. He wants to make America affordable for everybody. He loves America. He’s and America First patriot. So, don’t take it out of context. Donald Trump loves America, and the American people love him.”
