Congressional Democrats are moving fast to try to investigate and impeach Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem amid the crisis in Minneapolis.
“House Democrats are set to open an investigation into Homeland Security Secretary Kristi L. Noem as early as next week, laying the groundwork for a push to impeach her,” The Washington Post reported on Monday.
The paper added that while Democrats have conceded that they lack the power to remove Noem right now, they want to move forward anyway to signal that they’re dead serious about their disdain for her.
“We understand Democrats are in a minority, but that doesn’t mean that we have to sit on our thumbs and do nothing,” Rep. Bennie G. Thompson said.
To that end, at least 145 House Democrats have reportedly signed a petition calling for Noem’s impeachment.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has, for its part, dismissed this move by Democrats.
Democrats are “more focused on showmanship and fundraising clicks than actually removing criminals from our streets,” DHS Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said. “We hope these members get serious about doing their job to protect the American people, which is what this Department is doing under Secretary Noem.”
In addition to potentially being impeached, Noem also faces the possibility that she’ll be fired outright by President Donald Trump.
Indeed, The Independent notes that Noem’s odds of getting fired have surged on Polymarket and Kalshi, two prediction markets that let everyday people bet on possible political/cultural outcomes.

In addition, Noem and her top aide, Corey Lewandowski, met privately with President Trump on Sunday for a possible dressing-down.
However, the New York Times confirmed via anonymous sources that “Trump did not suggest during the meeting that either Ms. Noem’s or Mr. Lewandowski’s jobs were at risk.”
Meanwhile, Noem is now officially scheduled to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on March 3.
“The questions are expected to include criticism of her comments regarding the death of the second protester, Alex Pretti, who was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer over the weekend,” according to Just The News.
Pretti was the second left-wing extremist to be killed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in the span of a month.

Pretti, the second extremist, was killed when he tussled with ICE officers while armed last Saturday (*Graphic content):

Critics on the left — and some on the right — have alleged that the shooting of Pretti was a “bad shot” and that the ICE agent who opened fire must face consequences, as must Noem.
The anger at Noem stems from her rushed decision to call Pretti a “domestic terrorist.”
“Violence against a government because of ideological reasons and for reasons to resist and to perpetuate violence — that is the definition of domestic terrorism,” she said after Pretti’s killing.
Sen. Jacky Rosen, a Democrat, has called for impeaching Noem precisely because of her alleged “latest attempt to mislead the American public regarding the brutal and [allegedly] unjustified killing of Alex Pretti.”
