Elon Musk’s cryptic ‘I Support The Current Thing’ meme sets social media atwitter

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk took to Twitter on Monday to share a cryptic meme that simply stated, “I support the current thing.”

The tweet drew immediate attention, with some suggesting that he was mocking those showing support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression –an assertion that seems to run counter to his recent efforts to activate Starlink service in the country after Russia disrupted internet service. Another take was that Musk was targeting the great woke, or those quick to exploit the latest crisis to virtue signal.

The person depicted in the meme appears to be holding the national flag of Ukraine. In the background, a number of flags representing the LGBTQ community can be seen.

“Over the years, the LGBTQ community has used more than 20 different flags to bring awareness to their unique needs and experiences. Through this meme, Musk is apparently taking a dig at the people who show their support for a particular cause only when everyone is talking about it,” ABP News Bureau reported.

It’s not out of the question that Musk may have had Florida in mind. The Republican-led state recently passed the Parental Rights in Education bill, which bans classroom instruction on sexual orientation and gender dysphoria in kindergarten through third grade.

Much of the LGBTQ community dubbed the legislation the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, and the media was quick to run with the catchy title despite the bill never mentioning the word “gay.” The fact that this is a false, misleading characterization mattered little to most media outlets, and Big Tech fact checkers have been silent about the distortion. The manufactured outrage would be ratcheted up significantly when Disney CEO Bob Chapek put his company right in the middle of the culture battle when he buckled to the pressure on the left to speak out against the legislation.

Musk also shared this:

All in all, the first tweet prompted a lot of interesting responses, and proved that it doesn’t require much for some people to engage… or to be outraged.

Here’s a broad sampling of the responses from Twitter:
