Another outlet joined an attempted dogpile on President Donald Trump by trotting out a Jeffrey Epstein accuser with claims about “how close” the two were.
While most members of the general public who wanted transparency regarding the late sex offender sought accountability for anyone guilty of crimes in connection with the financier, others were using the heightened attention on Epstein as a new opportunity to “get Trump.”
The president’s decision to file suit against the Wall Street Journal for defamation didn’t deter other outlets from similarly running with claims about connections to the conductor of the “Lolita Express,” including the New York Times.
Sunday, the Gray Lady’s Mike Baker and Michael Schmidt published an interview with Epstein accuser Maria Farmer, who contended that when she reported her sexual assault allegedly at the hands of her then-employer and Ghislaine Maxwell, she encouraged investigations into people the financier knew, like then-businessman Donald Trump.
The Times detailed Farmer’s telling of a supposed encounter with the future president in 1995, of which “she told the authorities that late one night, Mr. Epstein unexpectedly called her to his offices in a luxury building in Manhattan, and she arrived in running shorts.”
“Mr. Trump then arrived, wearing a business suit, and started to hover over her, she said she told the authorities. Ms. Farmer said she recalled feeling scared as Mr. Trump stared at her bare legs,” wrote Baker and Schmidt. “Then Mr. Epstein entered the room, and she recalled him saying to Mr. Trump: ‘No, no. She’s not here for you.’ The two men left the room, and Ms. Farmer said she could hear Mr. Trump commenting that he thought Ms. Farmer was 16 years old.”
While the Times report noted Farmer had twice told the FBI about the alleged encounter with Trump, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung told the newspaper in a statement, “The president was never in his office. The fact is that the president kicked him out of his club for being a creep.”
Publication of the interview followed the president’s $10 billion lawsuit against the WSJ, News Corp’s Rupert Murdoch, and others after the outlet ran a story with an alleged “bawdy” birthday letter to Epstein from Trump.
“We have just filed a POWERHOUSE Lawsuit against everyone involved in publishing the false, malicious, defamatory, FAKE NEWS ‘article’ in the useless ‘rag’ that is, The Wall Street Journal,” the president said in part.

According to the Times, Farmer’s story is an example of “how the case files could contain material that is embarrassing or politically problematic to Mr. Trump, even if it is largely extraneous to Mr. Epstein’s crimes and was never fully investigated or corroborated.”
The newspapers weren’t alone in focusing on connections between Trump and Epstein. On Friday, CNN’s Brianna Keilar interviewed former model Stacey Williams, who once dated the financier and claimed her short-term beau “would share a lot of anecdotes” about the future president and claimed “they were very close and they were up to no good.”
