Fmr. Mar-a-Lago worker recalls experiences, says the whole Trump family were ‘lovely people’

A former employee at presumptive GOP nominee Donald J. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in South Florida is telling a much different story about his family than the media does.

The former president and his children have been the subject of smears and dishonest coverage over the years but Ashleigh Sasson who worked at the scenic property for three seasons has fond memories.

In an essay for Newsweek titled “I Worked at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago. The Whole Family Were Lovely People,” the South Florida native recalled her experiences at Mar-a-Lago, including one incident where the former president’s son, Donald Trump Jr. helped a beachgoer whose board got away from him.

“I remember one incident with Don Jr. We saw paragliders on Palm Beach ocean all the time, and we once saw someone take a really bad dip into the water. He lost his board and washed up. We all watched as Don Jr. swam out to get the guy’s board and return it to him. He didn’t have to do that,” Sasson said.

“I met all the Trumps. I found the former president Donald Trump to be very professional, always smiling, kind, and generous,” she recalled. “I didn’t deal with him all that much because I started in January 2016, and after he got elected in November it was completely different; he wasn’t really allowed to come to The Beach Club anymore as president.”

“I did spend a lot of time with Eric, Lara, Donald Jr., Ivanka, and their families,” Sasson wrote. “They were just lovely people.”

Sasson recalled how she ended up at Mar-a-Lago, catching the attention when one of the resort’s chefs and co-workers were dining at Duffy’s which she described as “a small beer and burger joint” in Palm Beach.

“He noticed I was working really hard to clean up one of my tables, and he came over to say that he saw that and gave me his card, adding that he’d love for me to apply to Mar-a-Lago,” she wrote. “I thought: He’s got to be joking, I’m a server at Duffy’s, I feel inexperienced.”

After initially blowing it off, she eventually applied and was hired at Mar-a-Lago where after initially starting as a banquet server, she was soon moved up to help with formal dining in the main house as a server.

“I helped serve plenty of meals to the entire Trump family and all their friends,” she said, also recalling how during her time working at the property she met several celebrities including Sylvester Stallone and Wynonna Judd whom she had her picture taken with.

“It gave me a lot of confidence and professionalism. But most of all: Joy. I have such fond memories of my time at Mar-a-Lago,” Sasson said.
