Former NY police commish warns of NYPD exodus if Mamdani wins

A former New York City police commissioner warned of an “exodus” of law enforcement if socialist mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the election.

The far-left Queens Assemblyman is not fooling New York Police Department cops with his act, according to Raymond Kelly, who once served under Democrat Mayors Michael Bloomberg and David Dinkins.

Kelly described the NYPD as a “target” for Mamdani, who is leading the mayoral race in the Big Apple.

“He is a problem. He is antisemitic. He is someone who has a lot of crazy ideas,” Kelly said Sunday on “The Cats Roundtable” radio show on WABC 770 AM.

“They started leaving in big numbers at the beginning of Mayor Adams’ term as mayor, and it’s continued,” Kelly said of the police rank-and-file.

“And of course, with a socialist mayor, I think there is a real challenge to keep the numbers of the police department where they should be,” he added.

Jessica Tisch was appointed by current Mayor Eric Adams as police commissioner, and Kelly weighed in on her future if Mamdani wins.

“She’s doing a great job, and I’d certainly like to see her stay in the department as a commissioner. But we don’t know what her relationship will be with a socialist mayor, a Muslim mayor. We just don’t know,” he said.

Kelly described Mamdani as “totally unqualified” for the office of mayor during an August appearance on the “Cats Roundtable” program.

“New York is the capital of capitalism, and to have someone who is so totally unqualified …this man has basically not had a job,” the former top cop said at the time. “I’m very concerned about the future of New York if he gets elected.

“My biggest concern is the Police Department and what he would do to the department. There is no question about it that he would have to reduce the size of the Police Department,” Kelly said.

“He will reduce the department because he wants to start something bold [a new Department of Community Safety] … with no articulation as to what it means and what he’s going to do. But it does mean he’ll have to take resources from the Police Department to staff that organization,” he warned.

Mamdani has been criticized for previous remarks and social media posts in which he called the NYPD “wicked,” “corrupt,” and  “racist.”
