Here’s what you need to know about Trump’s latest nominees…

Some of President-elect Donald Trump’s latest nominees include Scott Bessent, Russell Vought, Dave Weldon, and Marty Makary.

Scott Bessent

Bessent is an investor and hedge fund manager who’s been nominated to serve as Treasury secretary.

“I am most pleased to nominate Scott Bessent to serve as the 79th Secretary of the Treasury of the United States,” Trump said in a statement Friday. “Scott is widely respected as one of the World’s foremost International Investors and Geopolitical and Economic Strategists. Scott’s story is that of the American Dream.”

“Scott has long been a strong advocate of the America First Agenda. On the eve of our Great Country’s 250th Anniversary, he will help me usher in a new Golden Age for the United States,” he added.

Critics have raised concern, however, about Bessent’s ties to leftist billionaire George Soros. In fact, Politico explicitly describes Bessent as a “former George Soros protégé.”

“As a top executive at Soros’ hedge fund, he played a key role in the currency trader’s famous decision to bet against the British pound, which netted more than $1 billion,” Politico notes. “He later became the chief investment officer of Soros’ family office and scored another major investment haul by betting against the Japanese yen.”

Russell Vought

Vought is a former Trump administration official who previously served as the director of the Office of Management and Budget and has since been nominated to the exact same position.

“He did an excellent job serving in this role in my First Term – We cut four Regulations for every new Regulation, and it was a Great Success! ” Trump said in a statement. “Russ has spent many years working in Public Policy in Washington, D.C., and is an aggressive cost cutter and deregulator who will help us implement our America First Agenda across all Agencies.”

“Russ knows exactly how to dismantle the Deep State and end Weaponized Government, and he will help us return Self Governance to the People. We will restore fiscal sanity to our Nation, and unleash the American People to new levels of Prosperity and Ingenuity. I look forward to working with you again, Russ. Congratulations. Together, we will Make America Great Again!” he added.

After current President Joe Biden assumed office, Vought went on to found an organization, the Center for Renewing America, whose goal is to fight back against critical race theory.

Dave Weldon

Weldon is a former physician and congressman who’s been nominated to serve as director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

“In addition to being a Medical Doctor for 40 years, and an Army Veteran, Dave has been a respected conservative leader on fiscal and social issues, and served on the Labor/HHS Appropriations Subcommittee, working for Accountability on HHS and CDC Policy and Budgeting,” Trump said in a statement.

“Dave also served in a leading role in Government Oversight and Reform Committee Hearings, addressing issues within HHS and CDC. Dave has successfully worked with the CDC to enact a ban on patents for human embryos,” he added.

Weldon has famously questioned the safety of some vaccines and in 2006 appeared with parents who’d claimed that the CDC had covered up evidence that linked vaccines to autism in young children, according to Stat News.

Marty Makary

Makary is a surgeon and professor who’s been nominated to serve as the commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

“FDA has lost the trust of Americans, and has lost sight of its primary goal as a regulator,” Trump said in a statement. “The Agency needs Dr. Marty Makary, a Highly Respected Johns Hopkins Surgical Oncologist and Health Policy Expert, to course-correct and refocus the Agency.”

“He will work under the leadership of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to, among other things, properly evaluate harmful chemicals poisoning our Nation’s food supply and drugs and biologics being given to to our Nation’s youth, so that we can finally address the Childhood Chronic Disease Epidemic,” he added.

During the COVID pandemic, Makary was outspoken in his opposition to vaccine mandates.
