Hollywood activists suddenly silent in the face of Iran crackdown

Hollywood continues to face backlash for ignoring the protests in Iran and the deadly, horrific government crackdown that ultimately resulted.

As previously reported, thousands of Iranians were killed by their own government during recent nationwide protests against the nation’s radical and oppressive Islamic regime.

Yet in response to these protests, Hollywood mostly remained quiet, instead choosing to focus their attention on the small anti-ICE protests being organized and funded by the far-left here in the States.

This was made abundantly clear during the recent Global Globe awards, as noted by Emmy Award–winning and multiple film festival–winning actor, host, and filmmaker Yuval David.

“In the glittering ballroom of the Golden Globes, the air is usually thick with self-congratulatory speeches about the power of art to change the world,” David wrote for a column published at Fox News on Wednesday. “But this year, as the Iranian regime escalated its brutal crackdown on a generation of freedom fighters, that same room was defined by a haunting, comfortable silence.”

“Many of the night’s most visible moral arbiters, including Mark Ruffalo, Wanda Sykes, Ariana Grande, Jean Smart, Natasha Lyonne, and Bella Ramsey, proudly wore pins against ICE after Renee Good was shot. They signaled their concern for one cause while saying and doing nothing for Iran, where people are being beaten, imprisoned, and killed for demanding basic freedom,” he continued.

The irony is rich, David further noted, given the left’s claims that “silence is violence.”

“We are told that ‘silence is violence’ when it suits a domestic political narrative, yet when a tyrannical theocracy hangs young men from cranes and blinds women for the crime of showing their hair, the cameras stop rolling,” he wrote.

The problem is simple: Selective outrage.

“The truth is as simple as it is ugly: Hollywood’s celebrated culture of activism has been hollowed out by a selective outrage that stops exactly where the Iranian regime’s interests begin,” David explained.

But sadly, none of this is coincidental or accidental.

“It is a bizarre, unholy marriage of convenience between the Western far left and Islamic fundamentalists,” David rightly noted.

“Despite standing for everything the progressive left claims to loathe, the oppression of women, the execution of LGBT individuals, and the total erasure of religious freedom, the Iranian regime is given a pass because it positions itself as an anti-Western force,” he added.

100 percent correct.

Something has to change, David maintained.

“It is time for Hollywood and our political leaders to stop waiting for a safe moment to speak,” he wrote. “We do not need more performative hashtags or empty gestures that disappear with the next news cycle. We need a sustained, unapologetic commitment to the total dismantling of the Iranian regime’s influence.”

“If we continue to choose silence over solidarity, our society is not just failing the people of Iran; it proves that the majority is actually choosing a side. It is time to stop being the regime’s silent partners and start being freedom’s loudest advocates,” he added.

That said, a recent Quinnipiac poll found that 7 out of 10 voters preferred that President Donald Trump not “take military action against Iran” for killing protesters.

A YouGov poll produced similar results.

“A majority (57%) of Americans would somewhat or strongly oppose the U.S. using military force to invade Iran,” the pollster reported earlier this month. “Only 21% would support a U.S. invasion.”

“Democrats are most strongly opposed to such an invasion (80% vs. 5% who would support it). A majority of Independents are also opposed (57% vs. 14%). Republicans lean slightly toward support: 45% would support an invasion, while 36% would oppose it,” the report continued.
