‘Holy cow, did he shrink?’ Rick Wilson savaged over guest speaker grift with Florida Democrats

The grift was on in Florida and social media users were most assuredly there for the opportunity to take potshots at the Democratic Party’s guest speaker from The Lincoln Project.

“Look at the little guy wearing grown-up clothes.”

Along with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ (R) nearly 20 point re-election victory during the 2022 midterm’s that proved to fall short of Republican expectations most everywhere else in the country, the Sunshine State’s GOP dominance had accounted for a roughly 1 million voter difference in registrations compared to the left.

That reality, as former President Donald Trump hosted a swanky private donor event at Mar-a-Lago, only further framed the sad state of Florida Democrats as their competing event invited The Lincoln Project’s Rick Wilson as a guest speaker for Leadership Blue 2024 in Orlando.

Appearing at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, because of course, Wilson was introduced by the state’s party chair, former agricultural commissioner and failed gubernatorial candidate Nikki Fried, and promptly argued talking points shared by President Joe Biden that Florida was in play and abortion was a key issue.

“There is light on the horizon. There is a break in the storm. They still have a lot of money, but they are a fundamentally broken party,” said the ad maker who pushed, “There are a lot of Republicans out there who are…struggling with one of the biggest issues — one of the biggest mistakes Republicans have made in a long time.”

“However, you want to phrase it, or look at it or think about it, between 22-28% of Republican women are pro-choice,” claimed Wilson.

Before even considering the positions espoused by the guest, whether sincere or paid for, many social media users couldn’t get past the appearance of the man who looked to have borrowed the suit of a larger man and made himself look all the smaller by his position in the background of Fried.

Wilson, who is often treated by the left as a “conservative” foil to promote their anti-Trump positions, was readily spotlighted for sharing seemingly contradictory statements to his own previously stated beliefs by contributing editor to The Spectator, Stephen L. Miller.

Captioning a series of posts from 2013 and 2014 with the simple message, “How interesting,” Miller juxtaposed Wilson’s speech with comments that read, “Liberals today shrug at 55 million abortions but freak out over some Japanese dolphins,” “They just want abortion to be safe, legal, rare and performed on the Blood Altar on the Plain of Tartarus by Dr. Kermit Beelzebub,” and “Though, sure as the sun rises in the East, America’s abortion fanclub will be out today, saying, ‘So WHAT? It’s just TISSUE.'”

Based on the prompt from NBC News’ reporter Matt Dixon that the appearance with Democrats “would have seemed unheard of 10 years ago,” one user landed the scathing blow, “It depends: Would the check have cleared.”
