A Colorado congresswoman’s controversy escalated Tuesday as her ex-husband was arrested for multiple misdemeanors in the wake of a restaurant confrontation, one of which involved a firearm.
Only a few days removed from conflicting reports about an altercation between Republican firebrand Rep. Lauren Boebert and her ex-husband, Jayson Boebert, the father of her four sons was arrested Tuesday and brought to the Garfield County jail.
According to the Daily Beast, which confirmed the charges during a phone call with a jail official, Mr. Boebert faced six charges, five of them misdemeanors and one petty offense in the form of third-degree trespassing.
The other charges brought against him were third-degree assault, prohibited use of weapons, obstructing a peace officer, harassment, and disorderly conduct for which he was released on $2,500 bail.
Amid the ongoing investigation following a Saturday confrontation between the couple, it remained unclear if the Tuesday arrest was connected to allegations that Rep. Boebert had punched her ex-husband in the face twice.
As had been reported, Mr. Boebert had summoned the police to the Miner’s Claim restaurant in Silt, Colorado after asserting that he had been the “victim of domestic violence.”
While the congresswoman had denied claims that she had punched her ex in the face, the Beast had reported that he confirmed “details of the altercation on American Muckrakers was accurate and that his ex-wife had ‘punched’ him in the face multiple times. Jayson Boebert also purported to have a witness to the events and said that he took back his claim that police were too aggressive with him.”

“I respect our officers and appreciate what they have to endure. I shouldn’t have said anything negative toward them,” Mr. Boebert was cited as saying. “I was unhappy.”
He had further stated that he had no intention of pressing charges against the mother of his children, but his story stood in contrast to that of the Colorado lawmaker’s.
In her own statement on Saturday’s incident, which had followed an earlier encounter when she had gone to pick up one of her sons from her ex-husband’s house, the congresswoman said, “This is a sad situation for all the keeps escalating and another reason I’m moving. I didn’t punch Jayson in the face and no one was arrested. I will be consulting with my lawyer about the false claims he made against me and evaluate all of my legal options.”
The incident was hardly the first conflict for the tumultuous marriage that ended in 2023 as Mr. Boebert was sentenced to seven days in jail for a domestic violence charge against his then-future wife in 2004. That same year, she was charged with third-degree assault, criminal mischief and underage drinking during an incident that resulted in her damaging his home and scratching his face.
At the time of this post, the legislator, who had announced she is running to represent a new district in 2024, had yet to release a statement regarding her ex-husband’s arrest.
