Amid concerns that the renaissance dubbed Twitter 2.0 could come screeching to a halt under new leadership, freshly minted CEO Linda Yaccarino released her first statement to the public addressing the “vision” of the platform.
Former Chief Twit and still owner Elon Musk undeniably caused a stir Friday when he announced that World Economic Forum executive chair and NBCUniversal head of advertising Yaccarino would be succeeding him as Twitter CEO. Fulfilling a promise from Dec. 2022 that he would resign once he found “someone foolish enough to take the job!” the new appointee piggybacked off Musk’s announcement.
“Thank you @elonmusk! I’ve long been inspired by your vision to create a brighter future. I’m excited to help bring this vision to Twitter and transform this business together!” Yaccarino said quote tweeting the billionaire who had posted, “I am excited to welcome Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter! @LindaYacc will focus primarily on business operations, while I focus on product design & new technology. Looking forward to working with Linda to transform this platform into X, the everything app.”
Thank you @elonmusk!

Moments later, she added to her statement, “I see I have some new followers…I’m not as prolific as @elonmusk (yet!), but I’m just as committed to the future of this platform.”
At the time of this post, Yaccarino had roughly 360,000 followers compared to Musk’s nearly 140 million.
“Your feedback is VITAL to that future. I’m here for all of it,” she continued. “Let’s keep the conversation going and build Twitter 2.0 together!”

Despite assurances from Musk like that given to activist Chris Elston, better known as Billboard Chris, after previously mentioned ties and commitments to “social justice initiatives” were raised wherein the tech mogul said, “I hear your concerns, but don’t judge too early. I am adamant about defending free speech, even if it means losing money,” public response to Yaccarino’s statement remained doubtful.
“It really does feel like keys have been handed straight back to the old enemy, time will tell,” as another asked pointedly, “Do you have any conflicts of interest that we should know about? If so — please let us know now what they are. This is the time to tell us.”

What’s your stance on experimental gene therapies and depriving people of their freedoms who didn’t comply? Also, what is your honest opinion on the misanthropic plans of the WEF?

I think many avid users don’t want Twitter “transformed” (which is WEF speak, like “reimagine” or “reshape”), we would like for it to work how it used to (seeing your followers/vice versa) without censorship, shadow banning, interference or other collusion. Back to the basics of…

What is your position on free speech?

Unlike Musk who will regularly respond directly to questions and comments posed to him on Twitter, Yaccarino remained mum after her introductory statement in her new role. However, that doesn’t mean she will chose to continue her silence on the concerns raised by users as Musk had stated Friday amid the initial onslaught over his announcement, “As soon as @LindaYacc is ready, we will do Spaces where you can ask us anything.”

Assurances from the self-described free speech absolutist seemed enough to alleviate the concerns of some, but others would likely remain skeptical until the CEO establishes a track record to support the expectations of Twitter 2.0.
