A pro-Palestinian plastic surgeon who once testified on behalf of a convicted Islamic terrorist won a Democrat primary election in New Jersey this Tuesday, prompting outrage from critics.
“Dr. Adam Hamawy … prevailed in a crowded Democratic primary field Tuesday to succeed retiring Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman,” according to Politico.
Meaning that out of all the Democrats available, the majority of Democratic voters chose to vote for the terror supporter.

Fox News notes that Hamawy, who was born in Egypt, testified on behalf of Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman in 1996. Rahman, known as the “Blind Sheikh,” was indicted for inciting the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Although Rahman didn’t personally participate in the bombing, his followers did.
Andrew McCarthy, the chief prosecutor in Rahman’s trial, told Fox News that Hamawy’s ties to Rahman are a surefire case of “guilt-by-association.”
Despite his controversial past, Hamawy was endorsed by the “squad,” including Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Speaking with Fox News, the son of a man killed during the World Trade Center bombing called Hamawy’s primary win disappointing.
“It’s just so disappointing… that this is the best candidate that we can come up with,” lifelong Democrat Michael Macko told Fox News.
“When your father was killed at the hands of terrorists while he was in his workplace, especially prior to 9/11, which was just unfathomable at the time, you become almost a single-issue voter. This is just something that… I can’t look past,” he added.

Macko also disputed the claim from Hamawy’s campaign that he had no ties to Rahman.
“It was the time leading up to him, you know the time that he spent with him, you know, between 1991, 1993 when the bombing was being planned,” Macko said. “Hamawy was traveling with him around the country, acting as an interpreter.”
“And even during the trial, he testified that he translated a fax in 1993. That’s the year that the bombing took place. It’s just too much of a coincidence that Hamawy did not have any idea of what was going on,” he added.
Yet Democrats — particularly so-called “progressives” — continue to fiercely defend Hamawy.
“Courageous candidates like Dr. Adam Hamawy are the fighters voters want to take on corporate power and fight for working people,” Stephanie Taylor of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee told Politico.
“Dr. Hamawy won because voters saw him as a fearless fighter for the working class against a political and economic system rigged for billionaires and other powerful interests,” she added.
Alexandra Rojas, the executive director of Justice Democrats, added in a statement to The New York Times that the group is “proud to send New Jersey’s first Justice Democrat to Congress.”
“Dr. Hamawy won this race the old-fashioned way,” Rojas said. “By outworking his opponents, out-organizing the establishment and building the progressive coalition needed to deliver his people-first vision to New Jersey working families.”
Palestinian supporters have taken Hamawy’s victory as a sign that “Palestinian freedom is a WINNING platform”:
Congratulations Dr. Adam Hamawy on this incredible win! The Democratic establishment just got a wake-up call!

Ken Martin, the chair of the Democratic National Committee, celebrated Hamawy’s win.
“As a veteran, combat surgeon, and small business owner, Adam Hamawy has continually served his community and our country,” he said in a statement. “He is a proven fighter for working families. We look forward to welcoming him to Congress, where he will continue the fight to lower costs, expand access to healthcare, and make life more affordable for New Jersey families.”
