Maher throws major shade at John Oliver, Trevor Noah over awards shows snub: ‘I tell the truth’

HBO “Real Time” host Bill Maher has become something of a voice of reason on the left, recently, and he suggests that’s exactly why he isn’t showered with awards like his fellow late-night liberals.

During a conversation on NewsNation with host Chris Cuomo, the topic of the Emmys came up, which prompted Maher to reflect on why the likes of Trevor Noah and John Oliver are receiving all the accolades despite a serious ratings discrepancy.

“Looking at just a sheer metric of ratings, OK? You crush John Oliver regularly. Trevor Noah’s, you crush his numbers. You do not get nominated the way they do for Emmys,” said Cuomo. “Why do you think you don’t get the shine that they do?”

The answer is simple, according to Maher: He tells the truth.

“I tell the truth,” Maher explained. “I don’t perform for just one-half of the country and say the things that will make them applaud, and there’s nothing wrong with that.”

While the host has been nominated 41 times, he has never actually won. Meanwhile, Oliver has received 17 Emmys in his lifetime, even going on to bring home the trophy seven years consecutively.

However, this is not something that bothers Maher.

“They’re very talented people you’re talking about, and do fine shows. But I just — this has always been my bond with the audience, which is much more important to me than an award, is that I will call it as I see it,” he said.

As America becomes more “woke” in many regards, Maher’s show hasn’t even received the token nominations it used to.

“In recent years, yes, not even a nomination because, of course, the nominating body out here is very woke, and woke has become a big thing,” he noted. “And woke I say meaning woke with an eye roll kind of woke. I mean, there is a kind of woke that’s valid, when it started. It became ridiculous.”

But perhaps the winds are changing.

In a move that seems to break away from his reliably left-wing material, Noah recently joked about President Joe Biden searching for late-Congresswoman Jackie Walorski, R-Ind.

“Noooo! Nooo! Joe, what are you doing!” the host groaned“So awkward.”

“And his explanation didn’t help. You know, it was like, of course, I knew Jackie was there. I was looking for Jackie Kennedy. Where’s Jackie Kennedy? Where are you, Jackie? Where’s Jackie O?” Noah joked. “Look, at least on the upside at least he noticed that she wasn’t there. This is a good thing. Yeah, could’ve been much [worse] if he was like ‘Where’s Jackie? There she is! There’s Jackie! Everyone look at Jackie! She’d be like ‘there’s no Jackie.’ She’s there, everybody sees Jackie!”

He also aired a skit that mocked Vice President Kamala Harris using “Veep” actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Bumbling quotes from the real-world VP were worked in, shocking conservatives who didn’t believe the liberal late-night host would go there.
