Marjorie Taylor Greene warns Trump about hiring ‘mentally unstable’ Laura Loomer; she punches back

A report that former President Donald J. Trump is considering hiring controversial activist Laura Loomer drew a strong reaction from one of his staunchest allies, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) who didn’t hold anything back in advising him against it.

The New York Times reported that the 2024 Republican Party frontrunner has told aides to bring Loomer on board despite her polarizing history and the reality that she would be a perfect target for Democrats and the press to smear Trump by proxy.

According to Maggie Haberman, who shared reporting credit with Jonathan Swan, Loomer is a “far-right and anti-Muslim activist with a history of expressing bigoted views,” making a potential hire the equivalent of throwing a bucket of bloody chum in shark-infested waters filled with already swarming Democratic Party activists masquerading as journalists.

Whether there is any truth to the report given that Haberman’s name is on it – a major red flag – the fiery Georgia congresswoman wasn’t treating it like more of the paper’s fake news, taking to Twitter to sound the alarm, loudly enough so that Trump could hear.

“Laura Loomer is mentally unstable and a documented liar. She can not be trusted,” tweeted Greene. “She spent months lying about me and attacking me just because I supported Kevin McCarthy for Speaker and after I had refused to endorse her last election cycle.”

“She loves the alleged FBI informant and weirdo Nick Fuentes,” Greene added, referring to the radioactive right-wing personality. “She tried to get hired on the Ye campaign after the infamous Maralago dinner, but Kanye West refused to hire her so now she’s running to Trump.”

“Never hire or do business with a liar. Liars are toxic and poisonous to everything they touch,” Rep. Greene concluded. “I’ll make sure he knows.”

Greene’s tweet was fighting words to Loomer who swung back hard.

“@RepMTG the only liar is YOU!  You hired the foreign National who set up the dinner at Mar a Lago, and you spoke at AFPAC where you were more than happy to embrace Fuentes,” she tweeted. “Ye Asked me to work on his campaign, and I SAID NO because I told him I endorse Donald Trump, but I support his right to free speech. You are a liar.?

“You have a British foreign National who openly attacks President Trump everyday working for you and living in Rome, Georgia. I have the receipts,” she added, in a reference to gay gadfly Milo Yiannopoulos. “I have screenshots of you telling me you want me in Congress and that you were going to endorse me. You only changed your mind once you made deals with McCarthy.”

“‘You’re a disloyal liar and you’re working with someone who said he ‘wanted to make Trump miserable by setting him up at Mar a Lago,'” Loomer raged. “Here you are on video in case I need to refresh your memory,” attaching a video clip of MTG singing her praises.

After her article had stirred up trouble and may have opened a rift within the pro-Trump MAGA base, the woman affectionately nicknamed “Maggot” Haberman by the ex-POTUS provided an update that Team Trump had nixed the potential hire of Loomer.

“NEW: After our reporting, a high-ranking Trump official says Loomer is not getting hired,” she tweeted.

“Before the intense blowback, Trump had been telling aides to give Loomer a job, obsessed with her attacks on DeSantis. But the intense reaction to it being reported changed things,” Haberman added.

According to The New York Times:

Some of Mr. Trump’s aides were said to have concerns that such a hire would cause a backlash, given her history of inflammatory statements and her embrace of the Republican Party’s fringes.

That proved to be correct: The New York Times’s report on the potential hire ignited a firestorm among some of Mr. Trump’s most vocal conservative supporters, and by late Friday, a high-ranking campaign official said Ms. Loomer was no longer going to be hired.

“I know a lot of people don’t like me, but that’s their problem, not mine,” Loomer said on Friday, according to the New York Times. “I have proven my loyalty to President Trump countless times over, and even if other people try to malign me and undermine President Trump’s wishes, I will continue to be a ride-or-die Trump supporter. Trump deserves loyalty and he deserves to have loyal people working for him who do not leak to the press.”
