MSNBC: Gun ownership is wrapped up in identity of ‘masculinity’ and ‘racism’

The United States is embroiled in a culture war and, when the initial shock of a crisis, emergency or tragedy like the massacre in Uvalde, Texas wears off, it never takes progressive activists long to twist the narrative toward their ultimate objective which is control.

Igor Volsky, the co-founder of Guns Down America demonstrated this in real-time Sunday, appearing on MSNBC’s “The Mehdi Hasan Show” where he discussed the “cultural identity” of firearms with guest host Ayman Mohyeldin. To the activist, the National Rifle Association (NRA), which had its convention in Houston, Texas Friday despite protests from the left, doesn’t merely promote guns, but also toxic masculinity and racism as well.

“Well, it is a force, and it’s a force because gun ownership isn’t just about the NRA,” Volsky told Mohyeldin, “it’s about an entire identity, and it’s intertwined in many ways like a braid with our notions of masculinity, racism, and guns. It’s those three issues that we have seen over decades really strengthen and grow within the conservative movement.”

So, not only is Volsky framing all conservatives as racists, but he is also fulfilling the woke agenda that promotes masculinity in and of itself as a negative trait. Considering where he eventually arrives in his argument, it’s surprising that he didn’t endeavor to weave climate change into the discussion just to hit another social justice touchstone.

“You know, it’s no accident that back when guns were first mass-manufactured, you had some of the earliest manufacturers recognize that in order to sell more guns, they should wrap their firearms in notions of masculinity, right,” he went on, “that having a gun really makes you a man or makes you a real man, and they use that kind of language, those kinds of marketing campaigns, to help push their product. Not to mention, of course, all the racist undertones that we have seen in that marketing, that we still see today.”

Naturally, Volsky cited no specific reference to support any of his claims but he forged on with his denunciation of a large block of the American people on his suppositions alone.

“So,” he declared, “it’s about a larger cultural identity that’s the strength of the NRA, I think, and really kind of the barrier that a lot of us who want to see tougher gun laws are up against.”

The activist could have left it at that, feeling proud of himself for having checked off a sufficient number of boxes to denigrate Americans who support the values the nation was founded on, but for the woke it isn’t merely about tearing down what they oppose. Their desire is to “Build Back Better.”

“We need filibuster reform, we need to expand the court…this is a long-term effort, right, and we need to really rewrite the script,” Volsky argued as he made the case for eroding the checks and balances of our democratic Republic.

“They want to see this president play a major part in rewriting that script, by barnstorming the country, calling and building support for change,” and then, he went on, “translate that support into real political power,” because the narrative is just a vessel to convey their agenda and it will be adapted to every scenario until they arrive at the level of control they are after.
