MSNBC post-election ratings collapse results in loss of nearly half of viewers

MSNBC’s sinking ratings ship found no reprieve as the latest figures revealed just how large its exodus of viewers had grown post-election.

A pitiful peak had been reached on the night of November 5th when MSNBC boasted of claiming the second spot for election coverage, topping CNN which suffered its smallest such audience since 1996. Now, the latest data from Nielsen Media Research revealed the ongoing collapse, after the meltdown masochists tuned out, amounted to nearly a 50% loss.

Detailed in a press release from Fox News that compiled the figures for comparison, following the victory of President-elect Donald Trump, MSNBC lost roughly 47% of its audience and 52% specifically in the primetime hours.

Worse yet, within the critical 25-54-year-old age demographic, there were only 63,000 viewers of their total 644,000.

For comparison, Fox News experienced a ratings boom following the election leading to a 73% hold of cable news’s audience. Primetime gains amounted to 24% compared to the prior year with 3.2 million viewers in primetime as it marked its 45th consecutive month with the number one spot in cable news. Of those viewers, 476,000 were in the 25-54 demographic, a 147% increase accompanying their overall year-over-year bump of 86%.

Similar woes were accounted for on CNN as their primetime viewership came to an average of 453,000 viewers with 92,000 in the 25-54 demographic as the network experienced a 33% loss in viewers.

Another metric putting the data in perspective found that the total number of telecasts bringing in over 2 million viewers for the month was 10 for CNN, 14 for MSNBC, and a whopping 248 for Fox News.

What was readily attributed to leftists seeking safe spaces in the immediate aftermath of Trump’s win, ill-prepared to face the reality that all the demagoguery that they had bought into, was that it hadn’t been enough to stop voters who crawled over broken glass to put an end to Bidenomics and a weaponized Department of Justice. It proved to be a trend including turning on their own.

As was previously covered, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, co-hosts of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” took pains after the election to extend an olive branch to the president-elect in order to not only be “talking about Donald Trump but also talking with him.”

For their trouble, Nielsen data showed that their viewership fell by 37% as their 618,000 viewers on Nov. 20, 49,000 in the 25-54 demographic, made for their least-watched program since 2021.

In commenting on the plunging ratings that accompanied an announcement from parent company Comcast of spinning off a number of properties into a new publicly traded company, including MSNBC, SiriusXM host Megyn Kelly called out the host of “The ReidOut” when she said, “Joy Reid was literally saying that if Trump won, they were going to start locking up brown people. So maybe spare me on the lectures of, ‘You stir people up and then make money.’ It’s no accident that MSNBC’s ratings are in the toilet.”

“They’re being spun off because reputationally they’re a nightmare for Comcast and NBC,” she went on. “These are the biggest losers at the party with their little pocket squares, and they’ve been spun off to go sit in the part with the non-alcohol punch.”
