A new poll has been released with results so shocking, some are questioning the veracity of YouGov America’s findings.
According to the British polling company, 54% of Americans — including 24% of Republicans — support the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision to toss former President Donald Trump off its presidential primary ballot in 2024.
“Do you approve or disapprove of the Colorado Supreme Court ruling that Donald Trump can’t appear on the state’s 2024 Republican presidential primary ballot because his actions leading up to the Jan. 6, 2021 takeover of the Capitol amount to insurrection or rebellion against the United States?” YouGov asked 3,493 Americans on Dec. 20, just one day after the court released its explosive opinion.
% who approve / disapprove of the Colorado Supreme Court ruling
U.S. adults: 54% / 35%
Democrats: 84% / 8%
Independents: 48% / 35%
Republicans: 24% / 66%https://t.co/BAD7TgXWJD https://t.co/8VirfErcWb pic.twitter.com/PZ2Pd5IZ6w— YouGov America (@YouGovAmerica) December 20, 2023
Keep in mind, this is the same polling company that, just a month ago, reported that Trump has a 40-point lead among Republicans and Independents over the second-place contender, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
While few are surprised that 84% of Democrats support Colorado’s democracy-destroying decision, the finding that a quarter of Republicans back it has some scratching their heads.
Blaze Media host Steve Deace, who has a wealth of experience with primary polling, suggested that either Trump’s popularity has been inflated to detract from DeSantis’s campaign or the current poll is skewed to benefit the Democrats’ agenda.
“YouGov says 54% approve Colorado Marxists removing Trump from ballot, only 35% disapprove,” Deace wrote on X. “But YouGov also gives Trump 43-point lead in GOP primary, so it has been declared righteous.”
“Whatever do we do?” he snarked. “I suggest just ignoring what doesn’t fit our narrative.”

Others blamed YouGov’s “god awful” wording of its question.

YouGov’s unique method of polling may have something to do with the disturbing results.
According to Influence Watch, “YouGov has 20 million members worldwide whom it surveys, along with 1,600 employees across 39 offices.”
The company “attracts poll takers by distributing ‘points’ which can be redeemed for cash and gift cards. Select poll takers can join YouGov Pulse as ‘panelists’ for additional points.”
“While most polling companies survey random individuals to avoid selection bias, YouGov’s polling model is based on tracking the shifting of preferences of the same individuals over time,” Influence Watch explains. “YouGov’s panelists are used repeatedly for polls, and polling data is correlated with a large amount of political and non-political information surveyed from these panelists.”
YouGov’s current poll finds that, while the majority of Americans may support Colorado’s decision, the majority — 62% — also believes the decision will be taken up by the U.S. Supreme Court.
% who think it is very or somewhat likely / not very or not at all likely that the U.S. Supreme Court will issue its own ruling on the matter

If SCOTUS reviews the case, 43% of Americans — including 34% of the Democrats — believe Colorado’s decision will be reversed.

One user on X suggested another question YouGov should ask its stable of poll takers: “Do you approve or disapprove of someone telling you who you can vote for? Try that one.”

Try that one
