The power of woke wins out again, though it remains a wonder that the National Hockey League (NHL) would be among the victims of the DEI syndicate that has a stranglehold on American corporations too cowardly to stand firm against political correctness gone wild.
After initially banning players from using rainbow-colored “pride tape” on their hockey sticks — the LGBTQ community hijacked the rainbow, which signifies God’s promise to never again flood the earth — the NHL crumbled in the face of pressure from the left and will now allow the display that pays tribute to those who opt for an alternative sexual lifestyle.
“After consultation with the NHL Player’s Association and the NHL Player Inclusion Coalition, Players will now have the option to voluntarily represent social causes with their stick tape throughout the season,” a statement from the league said.

Then again, this was all predictable when the NHL launched the “Player Inclusion Coalition” back in May to advance LGBTQ and diversity initiatives within the sport. A move that came after some players refused to wear “pride jerseys” ahead of their teams’ Pride Night games, which resulted in the wishy-washy league abandoning the practice.
On Saturday, Arizona Coyotes defenseman Travis Dermott, a true-believer playing on a one-year, league-minimum contract, took to the ice against the Anaheim Ducks with rainbow-colored tape on his stick.

Celebrating “social causes” became the norm during the 2020 riots prompted by the death of drug addict George Floyd and the widespread embrace of the Black Lives Matter movement, with the NFL, the NBA, and MLB allowing the arena to be used as a billboard to promote the Marxist-inspired faction’s racially divisive message — hell, even NASCAR got in on the ruse.
Former NHL Executive Vice President Brian Burke pushed for allowing the Pride tape earlier this month under the guise of it being a “powerful community outreach tool” — never mind those who take offense to the league embracing another left-wing social justice cause.
“This decision has stripped clubs of a powerful community outreach tool and removed meaningful support for Special Initiatives, all to protect a select few who do not want to answer any questions about their choices. I hope the NHL reconsiders in order to remain a leader in DEI,” Burke said in a statement.

The NHL sets itself up to possibly being Bud Lighted by caving to the social justice warriors on the left… here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:
