‘Not the right type of taco’: Mexican-born GOP Rep blasts Congressional Hispanic Caucus for ‘biased’ diss

When Texas Republican Mayra Flores became the first Mexican-born Congresswoman in the U.S. House of Representatives, it seemed reasonable to assume the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) would welcome her with open arms, but nothing could be further from the case.

Flores’s early-October request to join the CHC, which boasts on its website that it “addresses national and international issues and crafts policies that impact the Hispanic community,” was promptly rejected.

You see, the CHC only accepts Democrats into its fold, as Flores quickly learned.

“Maybe I’m not the right type of taco,” the young lawmaker surmised.

Sadly, she is exactly right.

Not only is she a Republican, but according to the caucus’s communications director, her “Extreme MAGA values” do not align with those of the CHC.

“As the first Mexican-born Congresswoman to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives, I thought joining the Congressional Hispanic Caucus would be a constructive way to build bridges and work in a bipartisan manner on behalf of our constituents,” Flores told Townhall. “I was wrong. This denial once again proves a bias towards conservative Latinas that don’t fit their narrative or ideology.”

In its explanation to Townhall of its rejection of Flores, the CHC stated, “In 2003, led by Rep. Diaz Balart, GOP Members split from the CHC to form the Congressional Hispanic Conference. Per our bylaws, the CHC is now for Democratic Members. Rep. Flores’ Extreme MAGA values and their attacks on Latinos and our nation’s democracy on January 6 do not align with CHC values.”

The exclusive little clique of lawmakers may soon come to regret their sanctimonious stance, however.

Hispanic voters are increasingly turning to the GOP, leaving Dems to try and push a new narrative — Hispanics are racist white supremacists — to explain the exodus from their failing party.

As American Wire previously reported, Flores addressed the red shift within the Hispanic community on Fox News’s “The Ingraham Angle.”

“You see, the Democrat Party has walked away from the Hispanic Community. … My father was a Democrat all his life, and he said they walked away from our values,” Flores explained. “They are no longer standing with God, in family, and hard work. They stand against everything I was raised with. And that’s the reason why so many people are walking away.

“Now they’re calling us racist!?” she exclaimed. “Racist for what? For wanting our lives back — the life that we had two years ago? Two years ago we had more money in our pockets. We were able to provide for our kids. Now our family are struggling to pay their rent, groceries, gas. These are the issues that are impacting the American people. These are the issues that are impacting my district. And I’m 100 percent focused on my constituents.”

Back on Twitter, many see the CHC’s rejection of Flores as yet another example of the left’s hypocrisy.

“[T]he party of the KKK, Slavery and Jim Crow showing their true collars as frauds who lie about diversity,” responded conservative commentator Tony Bruno.

“You are a champion who has exposed the racist hypocrisy of the radical left,” stated radio host Bill Spadea. “Thank you.”

“Democrats are the most racist group of people around,” another user tweeted. “This just further proves it.”

Meanwhile, conservatives made clear to Flores that she is appreciated by those on the right.

“We think you rock,” wrote Jason “Storm Chaser” Nelson, “so who cares what they think?”
