‘Incredible scene’ as NYPD returns Old Glory to its rightful place on campus, deliver unapologetic message

The NYPD pulled down a Palestinian flag that anti-Israel protesters had raised on the City College of New York campus and replaced it with Old Glory as Americans applauded them and Mayor Eric Adams for showing some spine.

NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Operations Kaz Daughtry and Deputy Commissioner of Public Information Tarik Sheppard took part in raising the American flag on Tuesday in a viral video. The men proudly did so and were filmed at the flagpole’s base at the school’s Harlem Heights campus. A possible school security guard was seen in the video pitching the Palestinian flag before the Stars and Stripes took back its rightful place.

This occurred after the police stormed the City College of New York and Columbia campuses and arrested roughly 300 pro-Hamas radicals according to The Hill. Unfortunately by Wednesday afternoon, someone took down the American flag outside the brick building at 201 Convent Avenue in Harlem. No flag is reportedly flying there now.

Before the American flag was taken down again, Mayor Eric Adams praised the flag-raising as a patriotic event proving that New Yorkers “are not surrendering” their way of life.

“That’s our flag, folks. Who would take over our buildings and put another flag up? It may be fine to other people but not to me,” Adams commented at a press conference Wednesday. “My uncle died defending this country. These men and women put their lives on the line. It’s despicable that schools will allow another country’s flag to fly in our country. So blame me for being proud to be an American. And I thank Commissioner Daughtry for putting our flag back up. We are not surrendering our way of life to anyone.”

“Daughtry said the flag raising came after police spotted ‘desecrated’ American flags on campuses around the city,” the New York Post reported.

The NYPD and Adams appear to be taking a stand against the radicals and the outside agitators fomenting violence in their city.

“An incredible scene and proud moment as we have assisted @CityCollegeNY in restoring order on campus, culminating in raising Old Glory once again on their campus flagpole,” Daughtry posted on X.

“Agitators illegally removed an American flag from a flagpole, discarded it, and chose to hang their own flag. While we were going through the campuses, we saw many American flags torn, burned and desecrated,” he said in another post.

“The Palestinian flag had been flying at CCNY since protesters raised it last week when they set up an encampment at the public institution,” the New York Post noted.

Police violently clashed with anti-Israel protesters on Tuesday night. It appears that the protests are on the verge of full-scale riots now.

“The pro-Palestinian protesters, many from a group who traveled across Manhattan to protest at different colleges in the city, threw flares at cops and barricaded themselves inside an administrative building,” the media outlet continued.

All of City College’s classes are now being conducted remotely until further notice.
