ONE Congress member voted AGAINST bill to crack down on Mexican cartels border tunnels

Rep. Rashida Tlaib was the lone holdout, voting against a bill that looks to crack down on the cartels’ use of tunnels at the southern border.

The Subterranean Border Defense Act, championed by Republican Rep. Eli Crane, is co-sponsored by Democrat Rep. Lou Correa and enjoys overwhelming bipartisan support. It managed to pass the House with a 402-1 vote, leaving Tlaib out on her own.

If it passes the Senate, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) would be required to submit a yearly report to Congress detailing the Mexican cartels’ use of tunnels to smuggle migrants and drugs, as well as law enforcement’s plans to combat that.

“Since 1990, officials have discovered more than 140 tunnels that have breached the U.S. border with an 80% increase in tunnel activity occurring since 2008,” Crane said during a debate of the bill, which lasted approximately ten minutes. “With border crossings thankfully going down since January, I think it’s safe to assume this will drive threats to our border underground through these tunnels.”

“I believe this bill is an important step in the right direction,” Correa said of the legislation.

While other Democrats joined with Republicans to ensure the safety of those crossing the border as well as Americans, X users were not pleased with Tlaib’s obstinance:
