President-elect Donald Trump shut down negative speculation about his support of Pete Hegseth as his Secretary of Defense nominee.
The incoming 47th president took to social media on Friday to make it clear he is still backing his choice, a military veteran and former Fox News co-host who has been the target of negative attacks from even those on the GOP side.
While the embattled Hegseth has had plenty of vocal support for his nomination, Trump has largely stayed quiet since his announcement. He came out with a post on Friday to emphasize that his pick is a “winner” and that the “fake news” has tried to paint a false picture of support behind him.
“Pete Hegseth is doing very well,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“His support is strong and deep, much more so than the Fake News would have you believe,” he added.
“He was a great student – Princeton/Harvard educated – with a Military state of mind. He will be a fantastic, high energy, Secretary of Defense Defense, one who leads with charisma and skill,” Trump continued. “Pete is a WINNER, and there is nothing that can be done to change that!!!”
“Thank you Mr. President. Like you, we will never back down,” Hegseth responded.

The president’s supporters have called out Republicans who are joining the fracas about Hegseth amid allegations of sexual misconduct and other stories damaging his credibility.

Hegseth’s former Fox News colleague Brian Kilmeade spoke of support “looking good” for the nomination, citing a “top Trump official.”
“We talked to a high-ranking Trump official last night,” Kilmeade said on “Fox & Friends” Friday, referring to Fox Nation’s Patriot Awards which took place on Thursday.
“And Pete’s looking good. Yeah, Pete has made huge progress yesterday as Secretary of Defense,” he continued. “You know why? Because he’s saying what he represents.”
“They get a chance to see him, not the anonymous reporting. And as Will Cain brought up yesterday if you want to do a balanced story, call us. Yeah, you got the negativity. At least make the phone call and say, is this the one person you know? And then focus on his book and what he stands for and debate that,” Kilmeade said.
“After Pete’s mom came on and said, ‘He’s a different man now. He’s my son. And I know that,’” co-host Ainsley Earhardt said. “And I will tell you. He’s a changed man. And then, after so many people at Fox that have worked with him over the last seven years and more have vouched for him, and we all know him, and we know that he loves the Lord, his Lord, and Savior Jesus Christ. He and Jen have a beautiful relationship, and that is the center of their relationship.”
“And the president told me 100% he’s behind him,” Lawrence Jones noted.
Some Republican holdouts have not indicated they will vote to confirm Hegseth but pressure is mounting on them to fall in line with Trump’s agenda and the clear mandate American voters gave him.

Social media users reacting to Trump’s show of support expressed their own encouragement to Hegseth.

Where would we be if our Secretary of Defense backed down at the first sign of a confrontation…from his own countrymen???
You are doing the right thing, and we thank you!
