Questions remain over armed Capitol rioters who reportedly vanished from FBI’s most wanted list

Three suspected Jan. 6 rioters have mysteriously disappeared from the FBI’s “Most Wanted” list, but the federal agency refuses to explain why.

A total of 13 suspects have been removed from the list, but for the vast majority, there’s been a valid excuse — the suspect was a “journalist,” the suspect was a minor, the suspect was relisted under a new suspect identification number, etc.

But the same doesn’t hold true for the three missing suspects mentioned earlier, according to the Washington Examiner.

“One unidentified man wore an earpiece during the riot and was filmed carrying what appeared to be a concealed handgun on his left hip. The man was pictured on the FBI’s most-wanted list for over five months until he was removed without explanation on the same day the New York Times reported an FBI informant was at the Capitol on Jan. 6,” the Examiner notes.

“A second unidentified man was filmed beating police officers with a baton during the riot. The FBI said the man was wanted for assaulting a federal law enforcement officer, but the agency removed the man from its most-wanted list without explanation in late February, just weeks after his debut.”

The third suspect, one whose name has been making the rounds in conservative media, was the infamous Ray Epps. Despite being filmed urging Trump supporters at the peaceful “Stop the Steal” rally to storm the U.S. Capitol, he has never been arrested or charged.

The video footage of Epps was so shocking that Rep. Thomas Massie played it to Attorney General Merrick Garland during a hearing in October and then asked him to explain the mysterious circumstances surrounding this formerly “Most Wanted” man.

But the AG refused to comply.

“So, as I’ve said at the outset, one of the norms of the Justice Department is to not comment on impending ongoing investigations and not comment about particular scenes or particular individuals,” Garland said.

During a segment of Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” two months later, host Tucker Carlson slammed Jan 6th. Commission vice-chair Rep. Liz Cheney, an ostensible Republican, for also refusing to offer any answers.

“Epps has not been prosecuted or even charged. I mean, maybe he has. Tell us if you know differently. Liz Cheney. But if he hasn’t, how come? Did Epps have any contact with federal law enforcement agencies before the Capitol was stormed on Jan. 6th? Liz Cheney has called us ‘unpatriotic’ for asking that question,” he said.

“We asked her to come on our show and explain. She refused, of course, because she’s a coward. Most neocons are. But until Liz Cheney answers that basic question, there is no reason to play along with her charade. If they’re going to lie to us and hide essential information from the public, there’s no reason to participate, no matter what they say.”

Weeks later, there are still no answers.

In fairness to Epps, the Examiner notes that there’s “no evidence” he’d ever entered the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6th riot. Though by the same token, nor is there any evidence of former President Donald Trump ever entering the Capitol. Yet between the two men, only Trump has been accused of inciting the riot.

The evidence also includes footage of Trump telling the “Stop the Rally” attendees to peacefully protest, not riot violently.

Epps has claimed his words hadn’t been meant as incitement.

“The only thing that meant is we would go in the doors like everything else. It was totally, totally wrong the way they went in,” he told The Arizona Republic last year.

Yet among those who’ve been pursued for prosecution by the Biden Department of Justice are men and women who’d merely walked “in the doors” as Epps had commanded and then casually strolled through the Capitol.
