Sharon Osbourne gives brutally blunt answer on hypocrisy of Whoopi treatment for controversial comment

Sharon Osbourne is no stranger to backlash for speaking her mind, and so, when asked during a recent interview as to why another celebrity had received different treatment over controversial remarks, she didn’t mince words when she called out the hypocrisy and double standards.

The 69-year-old popular television personality, and wife and manager to rocker Ozzy Osbourne, sat down with The Times of London wherein they discussed cancel culture ahead of the premiere of her new program “The Talk.” During the conversation, the daughter of Jewish music producer Don Arden was asked why she thinks “The View’s” Whoopi Goldberg had experienced different treatment after her comments on the Holocaust.

“I’ll tell you why,” Osbourne, noting the rank hypocrisy, stated bluntly, “because it’s the Jews, and nobody gives a f**k.”

Earlier this year, Goldberg had been temporarily suspended from her daily ABC program when she declared, “the Holocaust isn’t about race.”

“No, it’s not about race. It’s not about race. It’s about man’s inhumanity to man. That’s what it’s about,” she insisted as her co-hosts attempted to negate her remarks. Goldberg carried on and added, “These are two white groups of people. Let’s talk about it for what it is, it’s how people treat each other. That’s the problem. It doesn’t matter if you are black or white, because black, white, Jews, Italians, everybody eats each other.”

Goldberg was forced to issue a public apology for her comments and was permitted back on the program. Less than one year earlier, the same couldn’t be said for Osbourne.

During an episode of the original American iteration of “The Talk” on CBS, Osbourne came to the defense of her friend Piers Morgan who was having troubles of his own over an interview with actress Meghan Markle. He had stormed off the set of “Good Morning Britain,” claiming he did not believe her claims about being suicidal.

Osbourne’s support of Morgan in a tweet the day prior, earned her the derision of her black co-host Sheryl Underwood as she endeavored to explain that she didn’t agree with everything Morgan had said. “But why is it that because I supported a long-time friend and work colleague of mine for years that everybody goes, if you support him, then you must be racist because he’s racist?”

“I’m not racist…I don’t care what color or what religion anyone is,” Osbourne continued. “Are you a nice person? That’s what I judge on.”

“What would you say to people who may feel that while you’re standing by your friend,” Underwood asked, “it appears you gave validation or safe haven to something that he has uttered that is racist, even if you don’t agree?”

“I feel like I’m about to be put in the electric chair because I have a friend, who many people think is racist, so that makes me a racist. And for me, at 68 years of age, to have to turn around and say ‘I ain’t racist.’ What’s it gotta do with me? I will ask you again, Sheryl, I’ve been asking you during the break and I’m asking you again,” Osbourne persisted, “and don’t try and cry because if anyone should be crying, it should be me. This is the situation, you tell me where you have heard him say racist things. Educate me.”

“It’s not the exact words of racism. It’s the implication and the reaction to it. To not want to address that because [Markle] is a black woman and to try and dismiss it, or to make it seem like less than what it is, that’s what makes it racist,” Underwood argued.

The show itself took a break following Osbourne’s defense of Morgan, and when the hiatus ended, she did not return, despite her own apologies.
