‘Thank you, I’m sorry’: Biden flubs abortion speech

A lethargic President Joe Biden stumbled through an appearance Tuesday at a “Restore Roe” rally held by the Democratic National Committee at the Howard Theatre in Washington, D.C.

With the midterm elections less than three weeks away, Democrats have become a one-trick pony focused almost entirely on the issue of abortion, hoping that will be their salvation when American voters go to the polls, and Biden was engaged in a little fearmongering by claiming the Supreme Court decision to overrule Roe v. Wade “risks the broader right to privacy for everyone.”

But he experienced another one of his famous flubs — or, in layman’s terms, the 79-year-old president simply got confused.

“That’s because Roe recognized the fundamental right to privacy that has served as a basis for many more rights that are — were to come and we’ve taken for granted of late,” Biden said at one point. “And they’re ingrained in the fabric of this country: the right to make a decision — the best decision for your health. The right to birth control — the right that I pushed hard and it finally got changed — to marry couples in the privacy of their bedroom.  Excuse me, I’m thinking about the Dobbs — the Dobbs decision.”

Biden also claimed that “in just four months, abortion bans have gone into effect in 16 states” — the New York Times just reported last week that “most abortions are now banned in at least 13 states.”

The president vowed to “sign a law codifying Roe in January,” should voters strengthen their hold on Congress next month, and fittingly, he closed out his speech by saying, “Thank you, I’m sorry.”

Having completed his speech and set down the microphone, with closing music now being piped in, Biden turned to acknowledge the young women behind him before suddenly turning back around and picking up the microphone again while facing the room.

“I was apologizing for my back,” he bizarrely said, as the music was quickly shut down. “My mother would be very angry. I was talking with people with my back to them. I apologize.”

Needless to say, people were not impressed… here are but a few responses from Twitter:
