Bandaged but not beaten, the crowd’s reaction to former President Donald Trump’s convention arrival was marked as the “most electric moment” in a display of “courage” and “defiance.”
Little more than 48 hours after being rushed to safety by his security detail in Butler, Pennsylvania, the outwardly emotional GOP leader was introduced at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
A standing ovation was not all he received as Lee Greenwood performed “God Bless The USA” over cheers and applause while Trump made his way to stand beside his newly-minted running mate, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance.
Shaking hands with commentator Tucker Carlson and Florida Rep. Byron Donalds as he acknowledged his attending children in the VIP section, the performer interrupted his live rendition to state, “We are here tonight with one purpose, and that is to elect Donald J. Trump as the next President of the United States.”
“He is here tonight to show his courage; his defiance against somebody who tried to kill him. You will not take this man down,” said Greenwood. “He has the courage, he has strength and he will be the next President of the United States!”

Even CNN’s Chris Wallace found himself admitting the undeniable energy of the arrival of the president two days after a would-be assassin had opened fire at Trump’s rally, taking the life of attendee Corey Comperatore and leaving the onetime commander-in-chief’s ear wounded.

“Winston Churchill famously said nothing in life is so exhilarating as to be shot at without effect, and you can see that today,” he said after the Republican nominee had taken his seat flanked by Vance and Donalds.
“I gotta tell ya, as somebody who’s been covering these conventions since 1964, that may have been the most electric moment I ever saw. That was quite extraordinary,” added Wallace as CNN’s Jake Tapper responded, “These are tens of thousands of people who love Donald Trump and they almost lost him, this figure that figures so prominently in their lives.”

Joining in the cavalcade of reactions to Trump’s impactful entry at the start of the week of events and speeches, Outkick founder Clay Travis asserted, “Trump walking out with the bandage on his ear from the failed assassination attempt is an all timer,” as author David Limbaugh remarked, “President Trump really seems emotional to me and that’s a great thing.”

As others sounded off with their own responses to the moment, the Republican National Committee noted the stark contrast between the parties that had grown more pronounced after recent events and asserted, “REPUBLICANS ARE MORE UNITED THAN EVER — MAGA!”

He appears more humble, introspective, grateful to be there. His walk and demeanor are different.
I think it will resonate with voters and I believe it’s genuine.— David Swinford (@david_swinford) July 16, 2024
It was striking. Humble, grateful, and emotional.
