Tucker SLAMS Ted Cruz for ‘repeating talking points Merrick Garland prepared,’ calling riots ‘violent terrorist attack’

Fox News host Tucker Carlson has accused Sen. Ted Cruz, a Republican, of repeating the Biden administration’s talking points about the Jan. 6th riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Carlson lodged the extraordinary accusation during a lengthy monologue Wednesday on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” about the left’s fixation on the Jan. 6th riot at the U.S. Capitol.

At one point, he said that “no one in Congress seems to care” about all the discrepancies that have emerged — such as Ray Epps, a rioter who was seen on camera “encouraging crimes, riots, breaches of the Capitol,” quietly being let go scot-free and removed from the FBI’s “Most Wanted” list.

“Why is that? That’s a real question. No one in Congress seems to care, even supposedly conservative Republican senators. What are they busy doing? Well, they’re busy repeating the talking points Merrick Garland has prepared for them,” Carlson added.

(Some have speculated that Epps was an FBI plant. Carlson did not mention this theory.)

The Fox News host then played a clip from a Senate Rules Committee oversight hearing earlier that day. The clip showed Sen. Cruz describing the one-day riot as a “violent terrorist attack on the Capitol.”

“We are approaching a solemn anniversary this week, and it is an anniversary of a violent terrorist attack on the Capitol, where we saw the women and men of law enforcement demonstrate incredible courage, incredible bravery, risked their lives to defend the men and women who serve in this Capitol,” he’d said.

Carlson was not pleased by this, especially given that, according to him, Cruz is smart enough to know better.

“Let’s be honest. Everyone who’s conservative appreciates Ted Cruz. You may not like him, but you’ve got to appreciate him. He’s legitimately smart, and he’s one of the more articulate people to serve in Congress, maybe the most articulate. He doesn’t use a single word by accident. Every word Ted Cruz uses is used intentionally. He’s a lawyer,” the Fox News host said.

Which raises the question of why he’d used such heated words to describe the riot.

“He described Jan. 6th as a violent terrorist attack. Of all the things Jan. 6th was, it was definitely not a violent terrorist attack. It wasn’t an insurrection. Was it a riot? Sure. It wasn’t a violent terrorist attack. Sorry. So why are you telling us it was, Ted Cruz?” Carlson continued.

“And why are none of your Republican friends who are supposed to be representing us and all of the people who were arrested during this purge saying anything? What the hell is going on here? You’re making us think the Republican Party is as useless as we suspected it was. That can’t be true. Reassure us, please, Ted Cruz.”

He’s not the only one who’s complained about the GOP’s alleged uselessness.

In fairness to the senator, he’d been equally livid when violent left-wing extremists stormed Lafayette Square in the summer of 2020.

“This is a terrorist assault in our country, and rioting cannot be tolerated,” he’d said at the time on Fox News’ “Outnumbered Overtime.”

The difference, of course, is that Democrats denied and continue to deny that the left-wing extremists had acted wrongly. Moreover, Republicans never launched vengeful congressional hearings into the many riots that had occurred throughout 2020.

And so while Cruz has, in his defense, acted consistently and with principles, it appears not a single Democrat has followed suit. And this despite the Black Lives Matter riots of 2020 having been far deadlier and more costly.

Writing for BizPac Review, conservative commentator Ben Shapiro notes that the Jan. 6th riot “resulted in one direct death — rioter Ashli Babbitt was shot by a Capitol police officer — and some $1.5 million in property damage to the Capitol building; the Capitol was cleared within hours of the riot, and Vice President Mike Pence and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell promptly presided over the certification of the 2020 election. Those who broke into the Capitol or even trespassed have ended up in jail.”

Conversely, the BLM riots “resulted in some $2 billion in insured property damage (and likely billions more in uninsured property damage), two dozen people died, and the resultant political movement against the police led to an unprecedented nationwide spike in homicides in major cities. To date, there have been no commemorations from CNN, speeches from Biden or Harris, or a day honoring the police officers who held rioters in check.”

So why now are Democrats and their partisan media allies suddenly so focused on a single riot — the Jan. 6th riot — after having spent a year ignoring the deadlier BLM riots?

Shapiro believes it’s because of political opportunism. But the question then becomes, why is Cruz helping Democrats exploit the Jan. 6th riot for political gain … ?
