Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, a rabid Democrat, is currently embroiled in a war with numerous mayors across his state.
At issue is a relatively new state flag that some critics believe is just plain ugly, and other critics believe looks too similar to the Somalian flag.
In February, the Champlin City Council voted to basically abandon the new flag and instead fly the state’s original 1957 flag.
Other cities soon followed suit:

Then earlier this month, members of Minnesota’s Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party — Walz’s own party — pushed legislation to cut state aid to any county or city that replaces the new flag with the old one, according to station WFMD.
This move irritated a number of mayors, including Champlin Mayor Ryan Sabas, who called the bill “ridiculous.”
“It’s just an absolutely ridiculous bill that Democrats are signing on to because they’re scared that this has gained traction,” he said. “Not that it is, it has gained attraction. Every week there’s another city or two or three that are passing the same resolution, that are moving forward, not staying silent anymore.”
“The simple fact that they say they’re going to withhold any kind of funding from a city is absolutely ridiculous. That’s the people’s money. That’s the people’s taxes,” he continued.
By the “same resolution,” he meant the one passed in February calling for the old flag to be flown instead.
Sabas added that he and the Champlin City Council made the decision to replace the new flag only after a lengthy public discussion during which local residents made it clear they overwhelmingly disapproved of the new flag.

As noted earlier, Sabas was by no means alone.
“Punishing local governments for exercising their right to choose, on something that is supposed to be voluntary, does not reflect Minnesota values,” Crosslake Mayor Jackson Purfeet said.
“It is an overreach of power, plain and simple. In Minnesota, local control, fiscal responsibility, and giving people a voice still matters, and they should be respected,” he added.
Speaking with Fox News, Sabas said what really troubles him is how state officials moved forward with the new flag without ever listening to their own constituents.
“Two years ago, the governor and the Democrats had full power of the House, Senate, and the governor’s seat. They chose they wanted to change the state flag, which they legally have the ability to do that,” he complained.
“But instead of bringing this to the House, through the Senate and all voting on it, they picked select members of a committee, and that’s who chose the flag,” he added.
I’ll never “unsee” what this guy pointed out about Minnesota’s new state flag. 😂🫣
He’s not wrong about how the flag looks like it could be a flag in Somalia.
However, if you hang it vertically, things get even weirder. I’m not surprised given what we know about Tampon Tim.… pic.twitter.com/GXbg3YAc2n

It doesn’t help that the DFL has reportedly decided to play the race card.
“There’s a lot of people who don’t feel like their voices are being heard, and they’re being downplayed again and being accused of being racist and not wanting to be inclusive,” North Branch Mayor Kevin Schieber said to WFMD. “I don’t see that at all.”
As usual, so-called “inclusion” appears to mean only the inclusion of everybody who agrees with Democrats.
Sabas was stunned by the irony of it all. He noted that while the DFL were big-time participants of the recent “No Kings” rallies targeting President Donald Trump, when it comes to the state flag, they’ve been acting like kings themselves.
“These folks, they want to talk about big picture politics and Donald Trump and No Kings rallies, they’re acting like kings right now because things aren’t going exactly how they want, so they want to pass a lot of punishments,” he said. “It seems absolutely just out of bounds and crazy.”
