In what can hardly be described as anything but an excuse to ogle the female body in all its glory, a provocative New York Fashion Week runway show featured models wearing what was described as tape bikinis.
Of course, when all you’re wearing is tape, any wardrobe malfunction could be critical and for one model, that’s precisely what happened. Fortunately for her, the malfunction involved one of her shoes and not the tape strategically covering enough of her body to keep the display above the law.
The well-endowed model, Leah Postol, was praised for her reaction, which essentially amounted to ignoring the flailing strap that came loose during her sashay — the strength of the tape was equally impressive.
Joel Alvarez, the creator of the Black Tape Project, shared video footage of the so-called drama online.
“Probably our most provocative show ever. This show was an act of rebellion during NYFW. I’m no design. I’m an artist. I’m here to make you feel some type of way,” he said in the caption. “Any of you who feel the need to state the obvious about her shoe strap just notice she doesn’t miss a step. True dragon.”

“When your strap on your ankle has other plans. ABSOLUTELY killed it, not a single misstep,” one social media user responded. Then again, when advertising wares such as Postol’s, it can be easy to impress others.
Alvarez describes himself as “the world’s only body tape expert, founder and pioneer of the Body Tape Art.”
He said the use of tape was inspired by a model in 2008, who asked the then-rookie fashion photographer to “use electrical tape on her for the last look.” Though perplexed by the request, Alverez obliged and the rest is history.
“Mind you, she looked like two Christmas hams wrapped in rubber bands when I was done,” he said, according to the Black Tape Project’s website.
As for ogling the female body, there were plenty of opportunities to get an eyeful and then some — all in the name of fashion, of course. Or is it art?
