Community college where Jill Biden teaches shuttered after receiving bomb threat

The community college where First Lady Jill Biden teaches canceled all classes on Tuesday after the school received a bomb threat.

Northern Virginia Community College’s Alexandria campus reportedly received the threat on Tuesday and Biden was not on campus at the time, being informed of the threat before she departed from the White House, according to her press secretary.

“The First Lady was informed about a bomb threat at Northern Virginia Community College prior to departing the White House for class this morning,” spokesperson Michael LaRosa said in a statement. “At no point was she in any danger.”

“All questions about security should be referred to the United States Secret Service,” he added.

NOVA Community College tweeted that the Alexandria campus was closed:

Biden is employed as an English and writing professor at Northern Virginia Community College, and decided to keep the job after her husband was elected president. She started teaching at the school when President Biden was vice president and reportedly teaches a class every Tuesday.

Sahra Abdi, who identified herself as a student at the community college, tweeted that she went to the campus and found the doors locked:

CNN reporter Kate Bennet tweeted that “the campus remains closed and will be closed for the remainder of the day,” citing a letter from the school president.

The college did respond to a social media user confused about whether all campuses were close, tweeting, “Thank you for the feedback. Only the Alexandria campus is closed – all other campuses remain open.”

Just last month, Vice President Harris’s husband, Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff, was escorted out of a Black History Month event being held at a local high school due to a security threat, The Hill reported.

Two male teenagers were eventually arrested by the Metropolitan Police Department in connection with bomb threats made at multiple high schools in the area.
