Crenshaw doubles down on ill-advised post about $20 burritos

Leave it to Republicans like U. S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw, who lost his bid for reelection earlier this year, to do their part to help Democrats in November.

Online chatter about $20 burritos apparently blew up into a proxy war over inflation and the actual cost of living. In the mother of all ironies, Democrats are using the idea that costs are up as campaign fodder against Republicans, who allegedly control Congress and the White House, even though their party played a huge role in prices being where they are today.

And that’s where the GOP congressman from Texas comes into play — he’s not alone here — taking to X to berate those complaining.

“Just hearing about this dumb $20 burrito debate so just thought I’d make the losers on social media angry before going to bed,” Crenshaw posted. “Stop whining, get a job, eat Ramen like the rest of us did in college, on a budget with 4 roommates. The market doesn’t care what you think something ‘should’ cost. Only communists care (they set prices remember? Then everyone starves, remember?) Are you a communist? Or are you an American adult male capable of handling his own shit?”

And to think that Crenshaw was once a Navy SEAL.

His post was slapped with Community Notes pointing out that he “criticized the Biden administration for telling Americans to change dietary habits to lower their grocery bills.”

There’s also the fact that Crenshaw is seen as a poster child when it comes to insider trading of stocks while in Congress — meaning he should have sat this one out.

Of course, his ego would not have that. In fact, Crenshaw doubled down after being dragged online.

“Okay, I am SORRY for triggering the comment section. Of course the world is objectively harder than EVER, and while a $20 burrito is rare, the fact that it exists anywhere is obviously proof that capitalism has FAILED,” he posted, heavy on the sarcasm. “lol no just kidding. Remember when the right had principles and made fun of leftists for elevating victimhood as a virtue? Want to tell people the truth? Or just bribe them for their vote in the next election?”

While there may be some argument that the work ethic in America is not what it once was, $4.00 gas brought on by an unexpected war with Iran does not help American families on a tight budget.
