Dems rage after Florida bans illegals from attending state colleges

The state of Florida, under the direction of Gov. Ron DeSantis, leads the nation in responding to the illegal immigration crisis that resulted from the Biden administration allowing 10-15 million foreign nationals to illegally enter the country.

The latest example of the state’s response took place this week when the Florida State Board of Education approved a rule banning illegal aliens from admission to the state’s 28 public community and state colleges. Under the new rule, only U.S. citizens and those “lawfully present” in the United States may be admitted and enrolled in the Florida College System.

Florida’s 12 four-year public universities, which included the University of Florida and Florida State University, are not immediately affected by the new rule, although the State University System’s Board of Governors is reportedly advancing an amendment to enforce a similar ban starting in the 2027–28 academic year.

State Rep. Anna Eskamani (D) called the ban “un-American,” claiming it’s not the fault of potential students here illegally that they are here illegally.

“I just wanted to emphasize that this morning’s meeting was started with a prayer, and it’s important to know that we are all God’s children, and the attempt to restrict a child’s access to higher education based on the documentation status that is no fault of their own is un-American, it’s unfaithful — and it’s absolutely, is also, constitutionally concerning,” the progressive lawmaker said during public comments at Tuesday’s board of education meeting.

On cue, Alexander Vallejos, a so-called “dreamer” attending the University of Central Florida, called the ban “cruel.”

“This ruling sends a painful message to young people who have done everything right,” he said, according to USA Today. “It tells them that their hard work isn’t enough, and that their dreams are less because of something they have no control over.”

To get a feel for how rampant illegal immigration is in America, there are about 49,000 “undocumented students” enrolled in higher education institutions in Florida, according to WUSF.

Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
