The state of Florida, under the direction of Gov. Ron DeSantis, leads the nation in responding to the illegal immigration crisis that resulted from the Biden administration allowing 10-15 million foreign nationals to illegally enter the country.
The latest example of the state’s response took place this week when the Florida State Board of Education approved a rule banning illegal aliens from admission to the state’s 28 public community and state colleges. Under the new rule, only U.S. citizens and those “lawfully present” in the United States may be admitted and enrolled in the Florida College System.

Florida’s 12 four-year public universities, which included the University of Florida and Florida State University, are not immediately affected by the new rule, although the State University System’s Board of Governors is reportedly advancing an amendment to enforce a similar ban starting in the 2027–28 academic year.
State Rep. Anna Eskamani (D) called the ban “un-American,” claiming it’s not the fault of potential students here illegally that they are here illegally.
“I just wanted to emphasize that this morning’s meeting was started with a prayer, and it’s important to know that we are all God’s children, and the attempt to restrict a child’s access to higher education based on the documentation status that is no fault of their own is un-American, it’s unfaithful — and it’s absolutely, is also, constitutionally concerning,” the progressive lawmaker said during public comments at Tuesday’s board of education meeting.
On cue, Alexander Vallejos, a so-called “dreamer” attending the University of Central Florida, called the ban “cruel.”
“This ruling sends a painful message to young people who have done everything right,” he said, according to USA Today. “It tells them that their hard work isn’t enough, and that their dreams are less because of something they have no control over.”
To get a feel for how rampant illegal immigration is in America, there are about 49,000 “undocumented students” enrolled in higher education institutions in Florida, according to WUSF.
Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
I’m still not sure why DeSantis isn’t considered a top candidate to run the country. He’s clearly been the best governor in the country.

Florida is leading the way in protecting citizens and rejecting putting illegal aliens over them. The exact opposite of Minnesota and @Tim_Walz.

20 states + D.C. offer in-state tuition to illegal alien students meeting residency criteria (e.g., attending high school in the state for a certain number of years and graduating)
18 of the 20 states & provide state financial aid grants/scholarships primarily to illegal alien…

Finally! Florida putting American students first 🇺🇸 No more taxpayer-funded education for illegals. Other states need to follow ASAP. America First! 🔥

We’ve lived here in FL for 20 years. My daughter is in college now. Florida colleges are tough to get into if you are not “diverse”. Many Floridians didn’t get accepted but illegals did. What took so long to accomplish this? So happy he did this. Long over due though.
