While Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) are becoming a serious arm of the Democratic Party, one has to wonder what they stand for.
Apparently, even DSA members have the same question. One of the most popular refrains among party members is the desire to tax the rich, specifically millionaires and billionaires, to fund their fantastical ideology. However, this message hits a wall when it comes to actually formulating a plan to do so.
DSA Co-Chair Megan Romer was asked by The New Yorker‘s David Remnick to expand on the policy of “taxing the hell out of millionaires,” and it quickly went off the rails.
Watch:
DSA Co-Chair Megan Romer says “We believe in taxing the hell out of millionaires.”
She then struggles to explain what that actually means:
Remnick: “What does ‘taxing the hell out of them’ mean?”
Romer: “Yeah. You know, again, I don’t have, like, a solid…”
Remnick: “But… pic.twitter.com/JMKW1egLM9

“We believe in taxing the hell out of millionaires,” she said.
“Well, what does ‘taxing the hell out of’ them mean?” Remnick asked.
“Yeah. You know, again, I don’t have, like, a solid, but…” Romer stuttered.
“But shouldn’t you?” Remnick pressed.
“Um, that’s a good question,” Romer responded, complimenting the inquiry rather than answering it.
“If you’re the co-chair of the DSA, shouldn’t you be more specific than just ‘taxing the hell out of’ something? What exactly do you mean?” he continued.
“So again, it’s democracy right? And we have to look at what we need to spend and what we need. We don’t want to depend on the existence of millionaires because that means people are still getting exploited. So yeah, we need to look at what we need to pay for in the interim, what sort of tax base we need for that to happen, and build from there,” she replied, using a whole lot of words to say absolutely nothing of substance.

They are literally just latching on to trendy memes like “eat the rich” and make the rest up as they go.

She just has to look at her electricity bill to have a reference of what ‘taxing the hell’ out of people means and how it’s done. So in her indoctrinated bubble of boogeyman billionaires and rote imagined grievances that she’s blind to actual grievances
