Former Fox News host Steve Hilton is reportedly considering running for governor in the very blue state of California.
That’s according to Politico, which cited several sources to report that the 55-year-old former host of Fox News’ The Next Revolution “is seriously considering a run to succeed California Gov. Gavin Newsom in two years.”
The outlet said that while Hilton is mum about any future political plans, he “has been increasing his public appearances and focus on California public policy [and] is already deep in discussions about a possible run as a Republican.”

“He is thinking very seriously about running for governor and he is doing it in a very organized way,” said Jim Brulte, the former California Republican Party chair and GOP leader of the state Senate, according to Politico. “I know he’s talking to a lot of the right people because I have heard from a lot of the right people that he’s talking to them.”
Hilton served as a policy adviser to British Prime Minister David Cameron from 2010 until 2012.
“Hilton’s candidacy would amount to a major test of voters’ appetites to challenge Democratic dogma and conventional wisdom in one of the nation’s biggest, bluest states,” Politico noted. “It also could help resolve whether deteriorating conditions on the ground — pockets of high crime, homelessness, and soaring cost of living — will precipitate a fulsome conversation about alternative leadership that hasn’t happened in decades.”
Some notable players in Silicon Valley are apparently paying attention to a potential ground-breaking run by Hilton.
Billionaire tech venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya told Politico that Hilton was “an extremely precise ‘first principles’ thinker.”
“He is a no-BS person who cuts to the heart of issues no matter how uncomfortable the truth is,” said Palihapitiya. “I think that that could be really refreshing at the right moment in California.”
On that note, Hilton referenced a “California Revolution” on Wednesday while responding to a report that Gov. Newsom has 991 bills on his desk.
“This is the problem! How can anyone read 991 bills in days?” Hilton posted on X. “Endless new laws, rules, bureaucracy…no real scrutiny or debate, it’s all just churned out by unions and special interests, Democrats wave it through. The system is completely broken. California Revolution.”
