‘Fox & Friends’ rip Beyonce ‘hoax’, DNC’s phony ‘joy thing’: Does it ‘really impact the low-information voter?’

There were rumors swirling all day Thursday about a surprise appearance on the final night of the Democratic National Committee, with newly installed Democratic nominee Kamala Harris scheduled to deliver her acceptance speech.

The rumor mill included celebrities like Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, with even George W. Bush’s name being bandied about. In the end, none of the above appeared and all the buzz left some to ponder if this was just a ploy to ensure a packed house for the vice president.

Fox & Friends picked up on the overall “phoniness” of the Kamala Harris campaign, which is running on a theme of “joy” in hopes of distracting struggling voters from real-life kitchen table issues.

“Does the whole joy thing really impact the low-information voter?” Will Cain asked. “And let’s not overlook — and I’m not even going to condescend to the low-information voter, I’m just acknowledging there’s a lot of people in America that’s going to go with this on vibes, but that’s balanced against phoniness.”

“Do they read Kamala as the phony one?” he continued. “Talk about phony for a moment. All the talk yesterday was Beyoncé. Where was Beyoncé? Beyoncé at the DNC! Was that a bait and switch? There was no Beyoncé. Was it used to pump up the ratings so more people would see Kamala? I mean, talk about phony … No Beyoncé. But I guess more eyeballs at the DNC.”

“100%, It was a made-up hoax from the very beginning,” replied Lawrence Jones, who was doing a live report. “The representative came out who’s been her long-time rep, who said there was never any talk about Beyoncé being there, but it definitely got a lot of people to show up because I saw a lot of people that were there just for Beyoncé.”

For what it’s worth, TMZ acknowledged that it had falsely reported that Beyoncé would be taking the stage at the DNC.

“To quote the great Beyonce: We gotta lay our cards down, down, down … we got this one wrong,” the outlet posted on X.

The questions over the recording star’s appearance resonated on social media as well, as did the speculation that the disinformation was intentional.

“Kamala Harris is so bad at this her own party had to lie and tell attendees Beyoncé was coming so people wouldn’t bail before Harris’s speech and leave a bunch of empty seats for the cameras. Amazing,” posted Sean Davis, CEO of The Federalist.

Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on the social media platform X:
