House GOP to probe Harris running mate Walz over China ties

House Republicans announced a probe into Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s ties to China, a potential national security risk if he ends up as the vice president.

Democrat nominee Kamala Harris’s running mate has been criticized for lying about his military record, letting rioters destroy Minneapolis, and putting tampons in boys’ school restrooms but his cozy relationship with the communist nation has largely flown under the radar.

Until Friday, when the news broke that House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) sent a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray notifying him of the lawmaker’s investigation into “Tampon Tim” and his peculiar record about China.

“It has come to the Committee’s attention that Governor Walz has longstanding connections to CCP-connected entities and officials that make him susceptible to the Party’s strategy of elite capture, which seeks to co-opt influential figures in elite political, cultural, and academic circles to influence the United States to the benefit of the communist regime and the detriment of Americans,” Comer’s letter read.

“Reporting about Governor Walz’s extensive engagement with CCP officials and entities while serving in public office raises questions about possible CCP influence in his decision-making as governor—and, should he be elected, as vice president,” the chairman wrote.

“Americans deserve to fully understand how deep Governor Walz’s relationship with China goes,” the Kentucky Republican wrote in a Friday post to X. “Governor Walz: Visited China at least 30 times. Served as a fellow at a Chinese institution that maintains a devotion to the CCP. Spoke alongside the President of a Chinese organization the State Department exposed as a CCP effort to influence local leaders.”

“FBI briefers recently informed the Committee that the Bureau’s Foreign Influence Task Force investigates CCP activity that is similar to China’s engagement with Governor Walz. The American people deserve to fully understand how deep Governor Walz’s relationship with China goes,” Comer said in a press release posted to the Oversight Committee website.

Walz wasn’t the only potential Harris running mate to have China issues. There was former astronaut Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) who was an early favorite but questions were being raised about a surveillance balloon company that he co-founded that reportedly received venture capital money from an entity known to have links to the communist government.

Harris could have played it safe by avoiding Walz like the plague due to his China connections and had a safe pick in Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro but he’s Jewish, a deal killer with the rabidly antisemitic Democrat base.

She instead picked the weird – and possibly compromised – governor of Minnesota and the decision may already be coming back to haunt her.
