The integrity of the Hunter Biden investigation appears to be in serious doubt as, one day after senators filed a formal inquiry pertaining to potential concerns of unethical connections between the U.S. Attorney’s office and Biden’s personal lawyer, there is a report that President Joe Biden’s son may be seeking a settlement with the Justice Department.
Biden has reportedly been receiving financial support and strategic advice from successful entertainment lawyer Kevin Morris. As the New York Times detailed, Morris is known for the licensing deal with “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and has apparently been paying the rent of Biden’s $20,000 per month residence in Malibu, California.
Of greater concern, however, is the report that Morris is the party responsible for loaning Biden the funds necessary to pay back his delinquent taxes for which he is currently being investigated by the U.S. Attorney’s office for the District of Delaware. The attorney has been a prominent influence in Biden’s legal concerns including his paternity lawsuit and matters regarding his questionable art deals. Furthermore, he is funding a documentary project related to Biden’s memoir, and so stands to gain from the continued success of the president’s son.
“The criminal investigation into Hunter Biden’s taxes and international work appears to be coming to a head,” the Times reported. “Justice Department prosecutors have met in recent weeks to discuss whether to move forward with the case. In the coming months, the department is expected to make a final decision about whether to bring criminal or civil charges, or to reach some sort of settlement that could include a significant fine.”
It is believed that by Biden paying his back taxes with the assistance of Morris, he may be attempting to curry favor. Interestingly enough, that possibility swings counter to what inside sources say Biden’s defense is, advising, “The allies prefer that the president’s son continue to keep a low profile and follow exactly what his primary defense lawyer, Chris Clark, tells him to do. They want Hunter Biden to do whatever he can to settle the matter with the Justice Department if prosecutors decide they want to charge him, according to the person familiar with their thinking.”

Clark, according to Republican Sens. Chuck Grassley (Iowa) and Ron Johnson (Wis.) is a former colleague of Nicholas McQuaid who currently works as Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division in Delaware. The senators have tried repeatedly to discover if McQuaid had recused himself from the case from Attorney General Merrick Garland, but have been stonewalled by the top cop. They are now endeavoring to get answers from U.S. Attorney David Weiss, the head of the District of Delaware.
They made note of Biden’s past remarks about his being “privileged to have worked with and know every judge in the chancery court,” and raised concerns over other potential recusals that may be necessary. If those measures have not been taken, it may be why Clark insists on staying the course even if it means a charge from prosecution.
According to Glenn C. Altschuler, a professor of Morris at Cornell University who has remained in touch with the student he mentored, the lawyer has “a heart as big as a house, and as his wallet has expanded, he’s been able to make his sympathies, his empathy, manifest in a variety of ways.” Altschuler said the motivations of Biden’s financier are less about strategy and more about “a tremendous empathy for people who were struggling.”
As the president himself is alleged to be connected to Hunter’s business dealings, empathy likely has little to do with the motivations of any parties involved in this defense. A recent Harris poll found that, not only do 58 percent of voters believe the president was involved, but 67 percent say if that proves true he must be impeached.
