Joe Scarborough celebrates ‘setback’ Oversight chair Comer acknowledges in case against Biden family

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough pounced on an opportunity to ridicule investigations into President Joe Biden’s alleged influence-peddling schemes while glossing over the finer points of House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer’s (R-Ky.) informant problem.

The Oversight Committee’s investigation heated up last week when a press conference was held to lay out the network of LLCs formed while Biden was vice president that connected him and members of his family to at least $10 million from foreign nationals and their companies. But those details and other allegations were dwarfed for the host of “The Morning Joe” by an unaccounted-for informant.

“So, comrade, you’re telling me you’ve lost another submarine?” Scarborough quipped and delighted at his own attempt at humor with reference to “The Hunt for Red October.”

The remark came after playing a sanitized clip of Comer’s interview with Fox News host Maria Bartiromo on “Sunday Morning Futures” where he revealed that a key informant was missing.

“Nine of the ten people that we’ve identified that have very good knowledge with respect to the Bidens,” the lawmaker said Sunday, “they’re one of three things: They’re either currently in court, they’re currently in jail, or they’re currently missing.”

“Come on! You lost an informant? You lost the informant, the guy that you claimed gave you all this information that you built this entire charade on?” Scarborough asked incredulously before drawing a comparison to Special Counsel John Durham’s probe of the Justice Department’s Russia collusion investigation against President Donald Trump.

“What do you and Durham, like, do you guys have tea parties every weekend? That talk about how you can destroy your reputation and your career? Durham tried this, remember? He chased conspiracy theories to try to prove that the FBI was corrupt and rigged the 2016 election, he made a fool of himself time and time and time again,” the host asserted. “And now we have lost informants, in fact, the informant, that this entire charade was built on.”

What Scarborough didn’t discuss as he made light of the situation and discredited Comer’s entire investigation, was that the congressman had said, “We have basic information with respect to what the informant has alleged, and it’s very serious. It alleges that Joe Biden, when he was vice president, was involved in a quid pro quo with a foreign country in exchange for foreign aid. This is a very serious accusation. All the FBI has to do is say, yeah, we looked into it and it wasn’t a credible informant. But they won’t answer our questions.”

As previously reported, the FBI had failed to meet the committee’s Wednesday deadline to respond to a subpoena and instead, according to Comer, the response regarding the informant from the agency was basically, “trust us and don’t worry about it.”

“I mean this is a pattern of behavior by the FBI that would suggest there’s been a cover-up for many years with respect to the Biden influence peddling,” the Kentucky congressman continued to Bartiromo. “And the media will try to defend Biden and say, ‘Well influence peddling is a cottage industry in the United States.”

“Not only are the Biden lawyers and the Biden White House intimidating them,” he noted of  whistleblowers and informants, “the media is trying to intimidate and discredit them.”
