NBA superstar Kareem Abdul-Jabbar minced no words when he slammed LeBron James over his “stupid, childish” celebratory dance following a Los Angeles Lakers game.
Abdul-Jabbar, the 74-year-old Lakers legend, commented on James and his on-court imitation of Sam Cassell’s “big balls” dance after he hit the shot in the Lakers game against the Indiana Pacers late last month.
James was slapped with a $15,000 fine after his display and earned widespread criticism, including from Abdul-Jabbar.
“For me, winning is enough. Why do you need to do a stupid, childish dance and disrespect the other team on the court?” he asked in a commentary video he posted last week.
“It doesn’t make sense. GOATs don’t dance,” the six-time NBA champion and Basketball Hall of Famer said.
James helped his team win in one of his last games before he was sidelined due to the NBA’s health and safety protocols over a COVID-19 test. But his behavior on the court this season has earned the 36-year-old star much criticism, with the league’s open rebuke and penalty after his victory dance grabbing his crotch.

James has also come under fire for using foul language on the court and for recently having some fans thrown out of a game because they apparently offended him.
Abdul Jabbar had also called James out back in October over his comments about the COVID-19 vaccine and that he believed it should be a personal choice.
“I’m a huge fan of LeBron James, both as one of the greatest basketball players ever and as a humanitarian who cares about social injustice. I have written his praises many times in the past and undoubtedly will in the future,” he wrote. “I admire him and have affection for him. But this time LeBron is just plain wrong—and his being wrong could be deadly, especially to the Black community.”
