In a shocking story out of Appalachia country, a Kentucky judge was shot inside of his own chambers by a county sheriff after the two men had an argument that escalated to violence.
On Thursday afternoon, Letcher County Sheriff Shawn M. Stines shot District Judge Kevin Mullins multiple times at the Letcher County Courthouse in Whitesburg, the judge was pronounced dead at the scene.
At around 2:55 p.m. EST, Kentucky State Police received a 911 call about shots being fired inside the building and upon responding, found the judge with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency Medical Services personnel tried in vain to apply lifesaving measures but were unable to revive the 54-year-old Mullins.

“On Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024, at approximately 2:55 p.m. EST, Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 13, Hazard, received a 9-1-1 call from the Letcher County Courthouse in reference to shots being fired from inside the building,” the KSP said in a statement.
“Several law enforcement agencies and emergency medical services responded to the scene and located District Judge Kevin Mullins, 54, of Jackhorn, with multiple gunshot wounds. Lifesaving measures were attempted but unsuccessful. Mullins was pronounced deceased on scene by the Letcher County Coroner’s Office,” the statement read.
“The preliminary investigation indicates that Letcher County Sheriff Shawn M. Stines, 43, of McRoberts, fatally shot Mullins following an argument inside the courthouse. Stines was taken into custody at the scene without incident. Stines has been charged with one count of Murder,” the KSP said.
“Any time a situation like this takes place, especially in a small town, it shakes the very foundation of what the town is and this is no different,” KSP Trooper Matt Gayheart said. “We’re just hoping that it’s a bad situation and we can resolve it as quickly as possible and start that process forward.”
“Sadly, I have been informed that a district judge in Letcher County was shot and killed in his chambers this afternoon,” said Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, a Democrat attack dog for Kamala Harris. “There is far too much violence in this world, and I pray there is a path to a better tomorrow.”

“Our deepest sympathies go out to all those impacted by this tragic event, and our thoughts and prayers are with the community during this challenging time,” the Kentucky Courts said in a statement on social media.
While it isn’t yet clear what led to the fatal argument, one independent journalist is stating that he was told by “high-ranking government sources” that the judge was allegedly “raping” Stines’ young daughter.
“High-ranking government sources tell me the Sheriff who sh*t and k*lled a Kentucky judge today did so because the judge was r*ping the Sheriff’s underage daughter,” wrote Nick Sortor on X.

“Local media reports the elected Sheriff of Letcher County, KY walked into the judge’s chamber this afternoon and sh*t the judge, exchanging words with him beforehand,” he added. “The Sheriff is now in custody on 1st degree m*rder charges. Furthermore, now deceased Judge Kevin Mullins was CLOSE FRIENDS with Sheriff Stines.”
“Predictably, Kamala surrogate Governor Andy Beshear, who previously said he hoped a family member of JD Vance would get pregnant due to r*pe, has come out in support of the judge,” Sortor wrote, calling for the charges against Stines to be dropped if there was a sexual assault involved. “Our country has no place for child r*pists.”
“We know that it was an argument between the two that led up – but what exactly transpired prior to the shots being fired, those are still things that we’re trying to get answers to,” Gayheart said.
