Kid Rock reveals unlikely collaboration with Eminem — on a Christian album

Artist Kid Rock sat down to speak with Lara Trump, revealing a surprising collaboration on his upcoming album.

His newest Christian album, “Halfway 2 Jesus,” will apparently feature a collaboration with fellow Michigan artist Eminem. While the two appear at opposite ends of the political spectrum, Rock says the pair are longtime friends who have vowed to never let the subject interfere in their relationship.

“You have a new album, ‘Halfway 2 Jesus.’ Tell me about this album; tell me about what inspired it,” Trump prompted.

“It’s quite a journey, almost 30 years from ‘Devil Without a Cause’ to ‘Halfway 2 Jesus.’ But it is not new to me at all, and my fans know that it’s a long story. It all centers on my birthday. 1/17/71, my middle name is James, James 1:17, which basically says ‘all good things come from God.’ I’ve been single ones and sevens my whole life the craziest times, the craziest places, and after Charlie Kirk was assassinated,  like a lot of people, I started to become closer to my faith,” Rock explained. “So I started writing these songs and next thing you know, they were just coming to me. I can see the skepticism in it like, ‘Kid Rock got saved?’ I didn’t get saved; I’m still Kid Rock, I’m still going to drink a beer and smoke a cigar. I feel like I’ve always been right with God. I referred to one of the songs on my album that Tom T. Hall wrote where I say ‘Me and Jesus got our own thing going, we don’t need anybody to tell us what it’s all about.’ This record is about second chances and forgiveness. It’s about trying to heal some of the division in our country. I wanted to create the songs that I wanted to go to church and hear, and I wanna have revivals. Saturday night revivals in arenas, stadiums, people drinking beer and having a good time celebrating our Lord and Savior. Full-on monster rock show. And I think that could do a lot of good in the world.”

“You actually collaborate on this album with another music legend, Eminem. Obviously, you guys have very different political leanings. I think it’s a very important move because it reminds people that at the end of the day, we can be friends and family and human beings with one another, even if we differ politically. What was your goal with this and how is it working with Eminem?” Trump wondered.

“We said years ago, we said, ‘Man, let’s not let politics divide us.’ And we never did. And so when I asked him to be part of this… he totally got it,” Rock said. “He knew how important it was for two little foul-mouthed white rappers from Detroit can set a good example for this country, that, hey, you know, it’s okay to differ politically and still be friends. I keep saying it, but thinking differently and having the freedom to do so is what makes this country great. I am so thankful he is on the record. He has been a tremendous friend for almost 40 years. I’ve always told people what a great father he is. He is just a class act all the way around.”
