As the White House and GOP leadership acknowledge the need for legislative action, the Supreme Court’s birthright citizenship ruling led one lawmaker to propose a new kind of travel ban.

Despite obvious concerns about birth tourism and the potential for “Manchurian” candidates now and in the future, the Supreme Court struck down President Donald Trump’s executive order that aimed to clarify the Fourteenth Amendment. Following the 5-4 decision, Tennessee Rep. Andy Ogles (R) introduced what he’s calling the Anchors Away Act aimed at prevent certain pregnant foreigners from entering the country to “exploit this loophole.”
Appearing on the Fox News podcast “Will Cain Country” with host Will Cain, a discussion about motives to come to the United States after the ruling led to the congressman detailing, “We’re literally going to be dropping Anchors Away, which really pushes back against the Supreme Court, this idea.”
“Look, if you’re pregnant and you’re from a foreign nation, you know what, it’s time for Congress to pass a law that says you can’t come here,” he explained. “You can’t have a baby on U.S. soil and exploit this loophole.”
Having yet to receive cosponsors at the time of this post, H.R. 9562Â seeks to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act “to clarify the classes of individuals born in the United States who are nationals and citizens of the United States at birth and to provide for the inadmissibility of certain pregnant aliens seeking admission as nonimmigrants primarily to obtain United States citizenship for a child, and for other purposes.”
Today’s United States Supreme Court decision is not only a betrayal of American sovereignty, but a direct attack on our national security.

The legislation was introduced less than a week after Ogles was cosponsored by South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace (R) on a bill dubbed the Remigration Act aimed at revoking naturalized citizenship for those convicted of felonies or found to be in support of foreign terrorist organizations.
While some saw the path forward as a constitutional amendment, President Donald Trump was among those favoring a swift congressional response, posting on Truth Social Tuesday, “The Supreme Court upheld Birthright Citizenship, which is too bad for our Country, but we can easily make it up in Congress through Legislation, with the support of the President, that has now been determined during this process.”
“No long and unwieldy Constitutional Amendment is necessary!” argued the chief executive. “Congress should start TODAY to work on ending expensive and unfair to our Country, Birthright Citizenship. They will have my Complete and Total Support!”

Meanwhile, as House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) was caught reacting to the opinion during a press conference on Tuesday, he went on to confirm that Ogles approach is under consideration, “We’re looking at that. We need to address the issue as quickly and as efficiently as we can. Some are implying that, or suggesting that it may require a constitutional amendment. And as you know, that is a large undertaking. But clearly, birthright citizenship has been abused.”
