Megyn Kelly slams choice of leftist Univision host for GOP debate: ‘It was like having Hillary out there’

Conservative commentator Megyn Kelly criticized the decision to feature blatantly biased Univision anchor Ilia Calderón as one of the three moderators for the second Republican presidential primary debate.

During a post-debate discussion on “The Megyn Kelly” show on SiriusXM, the former Fox News journalist who has moderated the network’s past debates wondered what her former employer was thinking when it came to Calderón, an unapologetic leftist whose among other things, refloated a big lie by VP Kamala Harris during last Wednesday’s event.

Kelly was breaking down the “hot mess” of a debate with her guests, journalists Eliana Johnson and Michael Duncan, when the topic of “that woman” came up.

“What on Earth was Fox thinking, partnering with Univision?” Kelly asked. “That woman, Ilia Calderón, is a leftist who’s been partnering with Jorge Ramos, who more than anyone is responsible for the abandon objectivity approach to Donald Trump and to journalism. I mean, they have almost singularly undermined the profession of journalism more than any other that I can think of off the top of my head.”

“And it was intentional,” she said. “She’s his co-anchor. This is a leftist news organization that’s basically propaganda. They’ve been in partnership with the Clintons. It was like having Hillary Clinton out there, this woman’s questions.”

Kelly continued, “And while I mean, I’ve anchored five presidential debates in the GOP primary field, and you can go out there and it’s perfectly fine to say, ‘hey, here’s an issue that’s going to be a problem for you if you’re the nominee when you get to the general’, you can do that. Like ‘you’re too extreme for moderates on abortion. What say you? Is that true or not?’ That’s okay.”

“But the issue selection and the way in and out of the questions showed her bias time and time and time again,” she said.

A prime example of Calderón’s use of her role as moderator to promote the Democratic party’s left-wing agenda was when she regurgitated the big lie spewed by Vice President Kamala Harris about the new Florida history curriculum teaching that slavery was beneficial for some black people.

While DeSantis slapped down her promoting of the Democrats’ race hoax, the debate had a distinctive leftist flavor, something that Kelly noticed early on.

Another critic, Fox News host Greg Gutfeld who likened the conservative network’s partnering with Univision to Bud Light’s disastrous hookup with transgender TikTok influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

“My problem with the debate wasn’t really the candidates at all, because the outcomes you get are created by the design. And Fox joining Univision, perhaps, was the worst partnership I’ve ever seen since Bud Light hired Dylan Mulvaney,” he said during the debate analysis on “The Five” last week.

“I mean, you have a host unload a litany of liberal clichés, whose premise is, we challenge successfully every day, and yet they were treated as approved truths,” Gutfeld added. “She had no follow-up to each one, which is weird, so it was like a deliberate list prepared by the DNC to tweak the candidates, to tweak the audience. It didn’t feel like a journalism debate to me, it felt like ‘The View’ without pastries.”
