Michelle Obama praises Olympic moment NFL star called ‘disgusting’

Baltimore Ravens defensive back Marlon Humphrey took exception to  Team USA gymnasts Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles bowing down to a Brazilian athlete during the podium ceremony, and he was quickly checked by none other than former First Lady Michele Obama.

Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade had just won the gold medal in the women’s floor exercise event of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and she was bracketed by Biles and Chiles, who took home the silver and bronze medals. In a photo that went viral, the Americans physically bowed down in what was widely seen as a sign of deference, which prompted the NFL player to protest.

“This is literally disgusting,” the three-time Pro Bowler posted on X.

As seen above, the left-leaning sports network ESPN characterized the moment by saying the American athletes “showed love to Rebeca Andrade after she won her first gold medal of the Paris Olympics.”

The left, which has a habit of ruining everything it touches, has endeavored to inject politics into the Olympics at every opportunity, and Biles happily obliged this quest when she took a swipe at former President Donald Trump, tweeting “I love my black job” after winning the individual all-around gold medal at the Paris Olympics — the reference is a political perversion of Trump’s assertion that illegal immigrants are “taking black jobs.”

And that’s where Michelle Obama enters the picture.

The woman who, at the age of 44, said of her husband Barack Obama’s success in 2008 that “for the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country,” described the photo as a “beautiful moment of sisterhood.”

The former first lady posted, “I’m still not over this beautiful moment of sisterhood and sportsmanship! You can just feel the love shining through these ladies. Congrats Rebeca, Jordan and Simone!”

The remark calls to mind Barack Obama’s stance on American exceptionalism: “I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism.”

In effect, if every country is exceptional, then American exceptionalism is simply in the eye of the beholder and nothing more.

Social media users were quick to bash Humphrey, pointing out the hardships Andrade overcame to prevail… here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
